A good friend of FH's is ordained (he became ordained for his best friends wedding) and offered to do ours for free. I'm totally keen on the idea, especially b/c he knows FH and and I know he will pretty much do whatever we ask him to.
What do you think? Is it better to get a 'professional'?

Our place said they would provide one for us, too. They were going to charge $350 for the officiant. If this didn't come about, I would have went with who they reccomended... they know best.
GL and let me know once you choose. The one guy i did contact from here, was a little wacky... ;)

I say go with the friend who will do it for free cause think about it, its only 15-20 minutes and at least with a friend you know what you are getting.

Yeah, that is what i was thinking... he's like i can put something together for you guys, or we can do it together, or you can plan the whole thing, which i really like, b/c I'm a bit of a control freak (sometimes).

funny thing is, FH and I were thinking about asking one of our friends to become ordained to do the ceremony, then we thought about our friends, and were like, um, maybe not!!! Lol

Re: For those of you getting married at RH
We're getting married at the RH but we're using a rabbi and a priest (i'm jewish, he's catholic). If you have someone you know that can do it for free, or at least cheap go for it! This rabbi/priest deal is $$$$$

Re: For those of you getting married at RH
My pastor from my home church is doing it. But i went to a wedding where the bride's oldest sister got ordained online and did it. And it think it was probably the most moving ceremony I've ever been to.

We are not going with the person that was recommended...FH wants it to be recognized by the church but I am Jewish...someone on here had Interfaith Clergy do their wedding so we got a Rabbi from them and we will have a priest also...someone FH high school cuz no one else would do it...

I'm kinda fuzzy on the details but I'm not exactly sure that it will be 'officially' recognized by the church. I'm doing a rabbi/priest as well (though we're doing it to appease both of our families) and though a priest and a rabbi are marrying us, i don't think it's officially recognized. But like I said, I'm fuzzy on the details....I tend to zone out when the priest is talking. Also, we're doing an interfaith ketubah, and that too I think the rabbi said was technically non-binding, more symbolic since FH is catholic. So anyway, you might want to double-check with your priest, (I could be wrong), but if that's important to your FH I would make sure. There's probably also girls on her ewho may know for sure as well.

Re: For those of you getting married at RH
For you interfaith girls, can I ask who are you using (assume it's not your preist/rabbi)? I'm catholic but FH is jewish and we're thinking of a minister/kantor or priest/rabbi (actually, FH wants non-denominational, but he said 'if there's anything remotely christian I want a jew there to counterveil it'). Booking the officiant is next on our list, but we haven't even started to look you and I'd appreciate any leads. Thanks!
