A good friend of FH's is ordained (he became ordained for his best friends wedding) and offered to do ours for free. I'm totally keen on the idea, especially b/c he knows FH and and I know he will pretty much do whatever we ask him to.
What do you think? Is it better to get a 'professional'?

For you interfaith girls, can I ask who are you using (assume it's not your preist/rabbi)? I'm catholic but FH is jewish and we're thinking of a minister/kantor or priest/rabbi (actually, FH wants non-denominational, but he said 'if there's anything remotely christian I want a jew there to counterveil it'). Booking the officiant is next on our list, but we haven't even started to look you and I'd appreciate any leads. Thanks!
I initially called the Interfaith Clergy Network but they didn't have a combo available on my date. Here's the website (hope the link works,if not google it, it comes right up)
If they don't have anyone I can recommend who we ended up using.

I say go for it. We're going to start looking for an officiant soon.... we're just going to call the people that our RH reccomended.
Our place said they would provide one for us, too. They were going to charge $350 for the officiant. If this didn't come about, I would have went with who they reccomended... they know best.
GL and let me know once you choose. The one guy i did contact from here, was a little wacky... ;)
We are not going with the person that was recommended...FH wants it to be recognized by the church but I am Jewish...someone on here had Interfaith Clergy do their wedding so we got a Rabbi from them and we will have a priest also...someone FH high school cuz no one else would do it...
I'm kinda fuzzy on the details but I'm not exactly sure that it will be 'officially' recognized by the church. I'm doing a rabbi/priest as well (though we're doing it to appease both of our families) and though a priest and a rabbi are marrying us, i don't think it's officially recognized. But like I said, I'm fuzzy on the details....I tend to zone out when the priest is talking. Also, we're doing an interfaith ketubah, and that too I think the rabbi said was technically non-binding, more symbolic since FH is catholic. So anyway, you might want to double-check with your priest, (I could be wrong), but if that's important to your FH I would make sure. There's probably also girls on her ewho may know for sure as well.
This was something that FH needed to have so we checked with the priest from Interfaith Clergy and the priest that will actually be doing the ceremony...it 100% will be recognized by the church which is great!! But I think we have to do pre-cana for it to be finalized...the priest was actually very nice and he encouraged FH to follow some Jewish traditions

Oh good, I'm glad! I just hoped that you wouldn't go through all that and it still not be recognized, because that would stink. We're not doing pre-cana so maybe that's why ours isn't? Once you go over the ceremony, at least they way we're doing it, it's actually very nice and you'd be surprised how smoothly the two faith's traditions flow together.

Re: For those of you getting married at RH
I am so excited about the ceremony...its weird because I really didn't know what anything meant until they told me when I met with the priest and rabbi...but it almost made me cry!!! We have to meet with the priest who will actually be doing it but I will ask about the pre-cana thing and let you know...when I met with interfaith they said nothing about pre-cana just that it will def be rec because the priest is rec by the church

LOL! As I've said, I only spoke with one person and he was a little pushy and I don't like that...
Oh, and at a friends wedding, the minister sat at the CH table with FH and I and chewed our ear off for the whole hour about why he should be the minister at our wedding... i was like, oh goodness gracious!!!

Re: For those of you getting married at RH
we were married at the hall and used Rev. Angela Heil. She's more spiritual than anything else and she really let us make the ceremony our own.
