For those of you getting married in a church..

Hi Ladies,

Ok we booked the date for the church with the pastor like 2 months ago. I was soooo happy we got got the church, I forgot to ask the major questions when we were sitting with the pastor. I basically forgot to ask how much it was going to be to get married there, how can we decorate, can we through petals, can we have a runner, who will be the officiant etc...basically everything..lol..so I called the church and they said I can meet with the pastor tomorrow morning before mass about all the details. Are there any other questions I should ask that you asked your church? Sorry this was so long. Thanks for your help.

Are you allowed to have music...I know in the Catholic church you can't play songs for the processional or the recessional

You can have songs for the processional AND recessional in a Catholic church. Most Catholic weddings tend to have instrumental pieces played for the processional and recessional.... songs with lyrics must have religious lyrics.. no secular songs.

I am surprised he didn't do that with you when you met the first time. When we booked the date, we went through EVERYTHING and sat with him for well over an hour. My church gave us a booklet they created with things about aisle runners, throwing petals (I can not throw anything), music, the rehearsal, etc. etc. Although the priest went thrrough item with us anyway. i would ask when the rehearsal would be (or are you able to schedule it on a day you would prefer), what are the policies re: pictures, videographers, etc. I would also ask about outside musicians ( if you are having them, you have to clear it with the church musicians), altar servers (in the event you are providing your own, so they won't schedule ones from the church) etc. etc. We also asked about the process of receiving the Papal Blessing, having outside musicians and another priest from outside the parish coming in to marry us, but these were issues that may not apply to you. Also, i would let him know whether you're just doing Mass or ceremony and make sure he gives you the 'Together for Life' book which will outline the ceremony or Mass for you and will give you options to choose for readings.

GOOD LUCK!

yea when we met with our priest he gave us the wedding guidelines booklet for getting married

for instance what we need to get married(copy of baptismal certificates) what we need that will affect wedding plans (pre cana and FOCCUS survey)

what is the number to the person in charge with music and the wedding coordinator to assist with coordinating flowers and bows....ask how many baskets you can put on the altar...our church mentioned two only

They told us to be puntual

they also said that rehearsals take place on fridays at 7:00pm

ask what the church offering is which should include fee for the parish organist and singer, custodial services etc.
also need marriage license....

it also mentions photographers are welcomed and that aisle runners are not permitted however flower petals and blow bubbles are only allowed when leaving the church

i think thats about it...i kinda breezed throught my wedding guideline book...
