I am looking for feedback from those of you who received a CD as a favor. Pros and cons!

I got one at my cousins wedding and loved it. The CD jacket was a little booklet and they had pics of them growing up and with the whole family in it. They also had great songs on it. I still listen to it.

i think it's a great idea and it's incredibly thoughtful and personal. but the ones i've seen have been all the couple's favorite songs and i dont' think it really speaks to all of the guests at the wedding. the younger people might like the music, but it's generally lost on the older crowd. but then again, you're not going to be able to find something that pleases everyone. we're doing chocolates...and someone might be allergic or just not like chocolate(imagine!!!!) i guess what i'm saying is that it's up to you and there are going to be pros and cons to everything!

my sister did it...and as others have said...its the music they like...although I keep it in my car just for the 'Let's Stay Together' song

I have received 2 so far and I do not like the songs, therefore, I never listen to it.

I think even if someone doesnt like the songs whats the difference from that or a little chachie that sits on the shelf and collects dust? I have gotten a real nice one that was all classical music. I Love classical music , but I hardly if ever listen to this one. Every time I see it on the shelf though it reminds me of the wedding! We made one, (so Im partial in my opinion), and we used all the typical LI wedding songs, including our wedding songs. There are like 20 songs on the CD. His brother said he wouldnt listen to it. Who cares, like someone else said, ya cant please everyone, not with any favor. Just do what YOU want to do.

I have received two and I love them.. Luckily I like the music on them.. That is the only tough part, some people aren't going to like the music, and they won't listen to it.. But you know what I've learned through out this wedding planning.. you can't make EVERYONE happy.. Everybody had different tastes.. I think the CD's are a nice personal gift, and it's the thought that counts

I've received one and I really like it...the couple's theme was TWO and all the songs on the CD are duets.

I did them and thought they might be a bust b/c who would want a bunch of our favorite songs? I was so wrong. Some people took more than one! After the wedding we got a bunch of requests for them b/c they didnt get one at the wedding - and we didnt have any. It was totally strange.
Ive gotten them as favors since and even when Im not crazy about the music, I like to see what people put on the jacket and what songs they pick, etc.. I always put it in my collection and its nice to have a bunch of mixed CDs to use for get togethers.
Even when I hate the music, its still better than 75% of the favors Ive gotten.

I never got one. But I think it is a different idea. I would definitely put it on as a background music if I was having a gtg.

We did CD favors too & I had the same concerns. I think what's a problem is that most of the time, they end up having too many different genres of music on the CD. They'll have like a Sinatra love song & then the next song is Barry White.
Originally, we wanted to do 2 different versions, an oldies & a dance music mix but we thought that was getting too crazy. We decided to choose all love songs so at least the whole CD would be a mix of one type of music and we got rave reviews from everyone, young & old.

The only complaint about cd favors I have ever heard was 'oh great, another Christmas CD' whereas I on the other hand was excited about it, so go figure?

we gave them out and people loved them. we've been married for 6 months and we still run into people who say they listen to the CD all the time. it feels so good to hear that (especially when i'm sick of it already hehe).

I loved it! The couple that did it that I know picked fantastic songs! I still use it 3 years later

I think it's a fantastic idea! For us, our favor is a toss up between a picture of the couple as they walk in as favors (we're getting married on a yacht) or we are considering doing CDs.
I am one of those crazy people who really enjoy oldies, newbies etc. I have such a vast taste in music. I like collecting one-hit-wonders etc. whereas most people won't buy a CD just for one song. I think many people will enjoy receiving a CD with a song or two on it that they would really love. However, as most of you have already said, you won't be able to please everyone. Do what you want to do!
PS. I am one of those rare people who don't like chocolate... so go figure!

Thanks so much for everyone's feedback. We are doing it!!!
FI has already picked out 15 songs he wants to put on the cd. We were listening those songs last night and WOW, they reminded me of so many good times, especially the first summer when we started going out.
FI had a what I think is a really good idea. You now how sometimes on a cd there is a sercet song at the end.
Well we have a recording of me when I was a like a toddler, talking to my Father. I think we are going to put a piece of that at the end. What do you think?
