if you're renting, how much rent do you pay and how many bedrooms do you have? Thanks!
ETA: We're going to check out a 2-bedroom in Maspeth (around the corner from where we live now) with a yard...we've been living at our place for the past 6 years so I have no clue what 'average' is these days...just trying to get an idea. Also, the landlord accepts the fact that we have a 75lb. Boxer....

I have 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, driveway and yard. I live in a 2 family house but the landlord doesn't live there. I pay $1100 a month.

Two family house (mom's) - One bedroom - Kitchen - Bathroom - porch - Living Room - Driveway $700 per month - but if I wasn't her daughter - she'd charge $1100.
Sylvia - I think you can expect to pay anywhere from $1,500 - $2,000.

We have a 1-bedroom now with a backyard and we're paying $900 (we've been there for 6 years)...it would be a big jump and would slow us down in saving for a house...but who knows maybe its a good deal...gotta check it out first...maybe we can even talk him down to $1350...

Holy cow. No wonder I live in Texas instead of NY. Our house is 3200 SQ feet and our mortgage is less than your rent on a 2BD apartment! I don't know how you guys do it!

We live in Flushing in a tiny 1 bedroom, 4th floor walkup (and of course, we are on the 4th floor!) and we pay 1075/month.
But they take our dog, so it's totally worth it. It's a nightmare to find a nice normal rental place in a safe neighborhood that takes dogs.

Syl-we are in a 1 bedroom (in-laws house) it is on the large side. If they weren't renting to us they would charge $1100.

I know you're not looking in Suffolk, but just to give you a point of reference. We were paying $1,600 for our apartment which consisted of bedroom, living room, kitchenette, dining area, den/2nd small bedroom, bathroom, and porch.
Sounds like you've got a good deal there!!

Sounds like a pretty good deal, when I was looking there were 2 BR apts in Queens that allowed pets for anywhere from $1100 - $1700. So keep that in mind as your range.
However I have a 1BR in a private house in Bensonhurst and I'm paying $1000.
