Re: For those of you on Birth control
my gyn says at least 3 months to get the hormones out of your system. Ask yours.

i didnt know that. i know my sister got off BC and had a honeymoon baby like less than a mth later! other sister got prego WHILE ON BC!
But Id assume that waiting a while is optimal.

Well mine said 3-6 months but my mom got preggers 2 days after getting off the pill....
So I think it all depends on your body!!

Re: For those of you on Birth control
I heard its also good to start taking folic acid since the pill depletes that and not having enough can cause birth defects

Not true. My best friend got prego right after she got off the pill, literally next week

Re: For those of you on Birth control
ok so i am always lurking on the pregnancy boards so what i found out is that they usually want you to wait at least three months so your cycle is regular and it will be easier to find out when you conceived so you have a better idea if the baby is on track
however, health wise - FH and his brother were both pill babies and my sister had both her kids within a month of coming off. . .so if it happens, it happens!

Not so much that your cycle has to regulate, but more that your hormone levels are off. Pregnancy happens, but there are risks to the pregnancy if you get pregnant while still having the hormones in your system. Doesn't happen to everyone, but my gyn says not to take chances. Use alternate BC for the three months, then try.

I think this is exactly right. Most of my pg friends were told this by doctors. Lots of people get pg while on the pill or right after stopping the pill and have healthy babies.

Re: For those of you on Birth control
the hormones from the BC are actually out of ur system after 3 days. they tell u to wait 3 months so ur body can regulate itself and u have a more accurate idea of ur due date.

same here - but my Gyn also said by waiting at least 3 months it gives your body time to adjust. when your on the pill it thins the uterine lining. it needs time to thicken so that when you become pregnant you can carry the baby to term

thats exactly what my gyno said it thins the lining which could lead to misscarriage, or nothing! as we have seen

Re: For those of you on Birth control
nope. They told me to wait a few months, but a year seems like a long time.
