Wow, I don't know what situations other people are in, but my mom just can't afford to help out. I will be getting her a gift though, to say THANKS for being my mom and supporting me my entire life!

I agree! We paid for our wedding ourselves, but I have plenty of other things to thank my parents for that are more important than a party. We are planning to make them enlargements & albums of our wedding photos. We told them at the rehearsal when we gave out the BP gifts & we wrote them a note in a thank you card expressing our thanks for hte last 20+ years.

While I agree with the sentiment about thanking them for everything else, why get them a gift on your own wedding day?

I'm not so sure the day will be 'special' to them like it will be to us. I rather get them gifts on their bdays or things like that.

Well, since my parents got my brother a Snapple route and a house, and I'm getting shiznittle from them for the wedding.... they'll be getting shiznittle from me, not even a parents album, sorry!
FMIL did help out, so will be getting a gift!
But I'm not bitter....

I am paying for my wedding myself but plan on getting my mom and FH's parents a gift, as they have helped us with lots of thing...including $ for our house.

This may sound cold-hearted...but my parents aren't contributing at all to our wedding, why would I get them a gift?

EXACTLY! My parents are lucky they're getting a parent album

My husband and I paid for our wedding....I was lucky that both my mom and my MIL both helped me with my DIYs. We got them both gifts. It can be a small gesture.

I bought all our parents 8x10 frames b/c in our photo package we were getting 10 8x10s. I also bought our moms hankies w/ a special personalized poem.

I also gave both sides the same photo frame engraved with our names and date on it. Even though we paid for most of it we still felt they contributed in thier own ways and felt it was right.

Actually now that I think about it, we're paying for everything and buying them parent albums too.

This may sound cold but I would rather get my FMIL a gift to go away for the day of the wedding.

She is wretched and after her colorful comments about the wedding I wish her nothing but the worst...........

MY rents of course I am going to get them something but I think we are going to stay upstate and watch the horses and give them some time away together as a gift!!!!

I share your thoughts!!

even though we payed for the wedding i got all the parents a gift...nothing major...a nice Lennox crystal frame...with a poem thanking them for all their support throughout our lives..it made MIL cry...for me it wasn't about this one day & who paid for what but being thankful for all my parents gave me in character and values growing up even though we didn't have much money...i wanted them to know that meant more than anything they could've ever bought me.

We did the same, MIL gave us a nice gift to go towards the wedding, but we got all the parents the same gift, Belleek frames, and a couple of handmade items. We wanted to say thank you for being our parents. We were lucky enough to have them in our lives and we wanted to say thank you for that.

We are getting our parents a gift. Whose more important then your parents?

We'll be doing something similar.

My parents are going to try to help us, and Steve's parents help him for his first wedding so I don't think they would help him again. So I might just get my parents a little something.

Exactly. Our parents simply can not afford to contribute financially, but that does not mean they have not been supportive of us in other ways! We are adults, and we are choosing to throw a party that costs a certain amount of money - it is not anyone else's responsibility to foot the bill.

I would def. get them something. Even though my parents aren't paying fully for the wedding, its not because they're are trying to be a******s, its because they genuinely cannot afford it, and how could I ever be mad at them for that, ya know?
