My parents are traditional and are totally against us moving in together before hand (although they have no problem with us sleeping at each others homes.. so silly)
Buying early would be okay.. FH and I could work on it before hand... but not sure when would be good to start looking. We were considering this spring or summer.
When are you planning on looking for a house?

Re: for those of you wanting to buy a house
We are waiting till right after the wedding, my fh is a mortgage broker and he said its too much for us too do the wedding and the house, plus we want to fully enjoy each of these experiences seperately and not mush it all into one time. I dont think my anxiety level could stand doing both.

Re: for those of you wanting to buy a house
we aren't going to start house hunting til after the wedding because from what i gather house hunting can be stressful...but we also live together...so its different. our least will be up 6 months after we get married.
would u consider renting or are u strictly looking to buy???

Re: for those of you wanting to buy a house
We plan to purchase in March of 08. in April we'll be living together for 4 years. Our lease expires on 3-31, so we're trying to time it just right.
We will be married early June of 08 so it should be fun. I figure my shower sill be around the same time as our move in, I'm so bad

we already own the co-op we live in but we plan on buying a house after the wedding. We'll be renting first because we plan on moving to NC and want to know the areas before we actually buy a house there.

We are going to wait till after the wedding, hopfully we will have a nice downpayment after ....hopefully, because all of the money we would be putting in savings for a house is going towards the wedding....

I dont think they mean that their parents dictate what they do, I think its just a respect thing for some people.

yes very much so. My mom feels that if we can live together then we should just be married. Out of respect I follow what she blieves as much as it ***** that Im not with FH. I think that is why they dont mind us staying over now and then at the others house.

thanks.. yeah I think we will prob hold off until spring when we will have more time. But i def agree that earlier is better. I know its going to take us time at first just to figure out what we really want in a house.

Out of curiosity, how do they feel about you going on vacation together?

Re: for those of you wanting to buy a house
theyt are fine with it.
We always go away and when we go with FH's family or mine we always have our own room.
In my moms eyes, living together is more extended and more perminent and if that is what we want we should get married now HAHA.
She can be very hypocritical.. but whatever. At this time it suits us because we don't pay rent and are saving money.. so we go with it

Re: for those of you wanting to buy a house
Me and my FH are starting to look around at houses. It is pretty stressfull he is the realistic one when it comes to prices. We have most of our big stuff booked for the wedding. We started looking just in case it needs work we have time to work on it before we get married. We both live at home and dont want to stay at either one of our parents houses after the wedding.

Re: for those of you wanting to buy a house
We are going to look probably during the summer. I live and teach in Staten Island and am looking for a job in LI. If I start next September in LI, I really would like to be living there. I hate the commute I have now.
