My parents are traditional and are totally against us moving in together before hand (although they have no problem with us sleeping at each others homes.. so silly)
Buying early would be okay.. FH and I could work on it before hand... but not sure when would be good to start looking. We were considering this spring or summer.
When are you planning on looking for a house?

Re: for those of you wanting to buy a house
we live together - not looking for a house just yet but it could easily take up to a year to find one depending on what / where you are looking

Re: for those of you wanting to buy a house
We are moving in together mid March. We are planning on renting until we graduate in June. Then we will look and like many of us know, looking can take a long time. So hopefully after the wedding we would be ready to buy.

Re: for those of you wanting to buy a house
So you think we should start looking now? My FH and I weren't going to look until September-December. My FH owns a house with his brother and his brother is going to buy him out...so we can't do too much until that happens.
Where is everyone looking for a house? FH wants to say around Kings Park area...

Re: for those of you wanting to buy a house
FH and I jsut bought a house in holbrook. We are closing on WEd. I am not offically moving in until we get married, but I will be sleeping there a few times a week to do work on the house (most likely on FH's days off). WE started looking at houses in In Sept/Oct and found the house we loved in december. Then it takes about two to three months to close on a house, if everything goes smoothly. We are redoing the house, not b/c its a fixer-uper, we just wanted it to be our style before I offically move it next march. We wanted to get a years of mortgage payments in and redo it to our style, so it would be less of a strain after we get married.

Re: for those of you wanting to buy a house
I defintely second the 'start looking now' FH and I have been living together for about 4 1/2 years now (renting) and we started looking at houses about 1 1/2 years ago and still haven't found anything! And we're not picky either! We're getting married in April of 08 and hope to have a house before then...but we'll see. Only recently did prices start to drop on LI!! But it never hurts to look, just to get a feel and see what's out there.
Good luck, HTH!!

Re: for those of you wanting to buy a house
We're stressed!
We're both graduating from school (in Boston) in May, and then moving back to our apartment in NYC in late May (which we'll be stuck into a lease until April of 09).
But i think we'll buy a house either in late summer 2008 or fall 2008 (depending on how long it takes us to find a good one!!) and just sublet out our NYC apartment until the lease is up in April 2009.
********Wow that's really boring for someone else to read. I think I just needed to talk myself through it. Thanks for 'listening'

Re: for those of you wanting to buy a house
When it comes to buying a house its best if you know what you can afford, and what you are looking for.
We looked for 3 weekends in a row, and the 3rd weekend is when we found our house.
Closing took 5 weeks.

Re: for those of you wanting to buy a house
We are getting married July 2008 and we have already started to look. We know that it is very unlikely to find the 'ideal ' home overnight. It takes months of searching to fine one that meets our needs as well as our bank account!!!
