Ivory gowns...what was ur reason for choosing Ivory?

not sure if my dress is ivory but it isn't bright white. I went to the bridal salon i tried on dresses when i found the one the salesperson was ordering it she called it ivory...I was shocked I said don't you mean white.She said 'honey the only white dress I gave you was the first and it didn't look as good as the soft white/ ivory with your skin tone'. I guess you just go with what looks good on you. Good Luck

I tried on White, Ivory, Diamond White and Blush.

The Ivory color looked the best against my skin tone. The Ivory that I'm getting is a VERY light one.

I chose ivory because the white looked way to bright..My ivory looks more like off white not so much ivory...plus I didn't want to look washed out..

Mine is diamond white.. not pure white a little off.. and thats only cuz thats the only color it came in.. i wanted white personally.. beacuse i want my FH in white.. now he has to be in an ivory or my dress will look dingie

I am wearing what they call diamond white, it has a hint of cream to it. i am just too fair for a pure white dress.... pasty Irish skin with a pink undertone and freckles in pure white = YIKES!

so I'm not the only one who doesn't look good in bright white!

I also liked the ivory becuase it looks a bit vintage. My dress is rather traditional, and so is the rest of the wedding, so it all gels well....

Well the dress I tried on was Ivory, and after I saw the diamond white, and white etc, etc, etc, cause there are actually 83 different shades of white , The Ivory looked awsome, and besides that, I was an unwed mother with an 8 year old. Not that that matters, but I'm sure Darren won't even notice that my dress isn't 'White'. Untill I tell him he has to wear an Ivory shirt

I saw 'my dress' in the store and wanted it as is.. which was ivory and champagne...never thought I would wear ivory ..although is not standing again something pure white, you would never know it was ivory (at least thats what i think)

I didn't want to wear white becuase it was TOO white and didn't go with my complexion/color. So I chose ivory to ease up my skin tone

I look poopy, pasty and washed out in white. That's the main reason. Plus it's a little 'warmer' looking for a fall wedding.

I never liked all white. It makes me nervous that I might stain it. lol So ivory was a way of me getting a 'white' I can be comfortable with.

For basically the same reasons as all of the previous posters stated, plus my dress in ivory just makes the detail 'pop' a bit more.

I'm so happy I found this post!

I am starting next weekend to look at dresses, and most of what I've found in the mags that I liked was ivory. I have very pale skin and can only imagine how ghostly I'll look in bright white!

I mentioned this to my FMIL and she tells me that ivory is only for 2nd weddings. Ugh! I tried explaning to her how popular ivory dresses have become ....
