For those of you who are getting married or have gotten married at your reception hall..I need help PLEASE
Well I am slated to get married at a R.C. Church however there are alot of problems that are arising(the priest we loved cancelled, time constrainsts, distance, FH has no record of his bapitsm and the church is giving us trouble etc etc etc etc). I feel it would just be easier to get married at the reception hall. For those of you who were married or will be married at the reception hall is:
1- Did it feel like an actual ceremony even though you did not get to walk 'down the isle' 2- Can you recommend someone who would make our cermony special and unique to us. 3- Is there a pre-cana class required or just consultations.... 4- We have a large bridal party....we want to keep it that way ...because all of these people are so special to us....even if they don't stand with us during the ceremony 5- I am worried how my CATHOLIC family will react
We are having our reception at Giorgio's in the winter ....has anyone been to one and can tell me how it looks
THANKS IN ADVANCE

How about getting married at a small chapel near your hall? That way you would still have the walking down the aisle effect. I got married ina chapel right next to my hall, I wlaked down stairs and an aisle, we had a christian ceremony, beautiful candles..a string ensmble..it was gorgeous!!! I know theer are alot of chapels in LI...Good luck!!!

Re: For those of you who are getting married or have gotten married at your reception hall..I need help PLEASE
OK, I had a similar situation. My family is very Catholic and it was UNHEARD of that I may not get married in a church. BUT my problems were that (1) I have wanted to get married outside all my life (which is very very bad in the Catholic religion apparently), (2) my FI was baptized, but did not have communion or confirmation, and (3) we wanted to get married 'fast' (our engagement is 5 months) and we couldn't coordinate a date for both a church and reception hall.
Anyway enough about me: Here are my answers to your questions
1. I am not married yet so I can't tell you how I felt about the ceremony BUT I can tell you that I have been to MANY ceremonies outside of a church and they have all been beautiful and special and in my opinion, better. There IS an 'aisle' that you walk down and you can have all the same things you have in a church (besides a Priest) - in fact, you can have MORE than you can in a church because you can play whatever music you want and you can throw whatever you want (rice, rosepetals, etc.) 2. We are using a married former Catholic Priest. We just met him so it won't be 'personal' but he does read from the Bible and he looks like a Priest and that's what we wanted. There are other girls on here that have said their officiant made their ceremony very special so hopefully one of them will reply. 3. NO CLASSES OR REQUIREMENTS other than birth certificates for the marriage license. 4. Our bridal party is 25 people. They will all be standing up there with us at the gazebo. 5. My mother has been WAY cooler about it than we expected, and so has my FI's family (although they still can't understand WHY we don't want a church). Nobody has said anything negative. The only person upset is my grandmother but she's dealing with it and will have to get over it because it is MY DAY!!
FM me if you have any other questions - sorry so long!

We are getting married in our RH's chapel. We did originally want to get married in my church, but it is far from the RH (and would cause a lot of travel problems for our guests). Since the reception is from 1-6, having a church ceremony would also cut into the time we are using for pics in a park.
There is a short aisle in the chapel, so I dont feel that i am missing out on walking 'down the aisle'. I'm not too crazy about the chapel decor...So we will probably add a lot of flowers.
I would call the RH and ask how many people their chapel will fit. Ours fits about 125, which is just about enough.
I dont know about pre-cana and consultations, i will have to look into that as well.
HTH!

We are getting married at our hall since FH is divorced and I didn't want him to go through the problem of getting an annulment.
I think it is going to be BEAUTIFUL & very special. We are having an outdoor ceremony in the garden, and that is what I have always wanted...romantic!!!
We are using Rev. Michael Callahan who is a vendor on this board. He was wonderful, made very good suggestions and encouraged us to add anything to the ceremony that would give it OUR touch. He is a former Catholic Priest and he does also format the ceremony to a Catholic ceremony with prayers & readings.
No pre-cana, just a consultation/meeting with him. We loved him.
We are having a large bridal party also, and they will sit in the front, just as they would in a church.
If you are having trouble with your church, your family has to understand that you have to do what will make this experience as easy & enjoyable for you as you can. I think in the end, they will understand. You can always work out the problems after the wedding & have a small church ceremony at a later date.
Good Luck!!!

Well, the majority of Jewish people get married at the reception hall and you DO walk down an aisle.... towards teh gazebo or what ever is set up for you. Also what about those who are different religions from their fiance? Everyone walks DOWN an AISLE just not in a CHURCH
I have never heard of such a silly thing before

1. It absolutely felt like a ceremony.
2. We used Rev Joe Divincenzo. He did a wonderful job. I wasn't crazy about working with his wife (she acts as a wedding coordinator) but the ceremony was beautiful and we received many compliments.
3. We just met to set up the ceremony.
4. Keep your bridal party!! The location shouldn't change that!
5. No clue about your family. Mine immediate family is not real religious so it wasn't an issue.
Good luck!

Mish- I am getting married at Giorgio's next weekend. The place is BEAUTIFUL. There are gardens in the back with a gazebo. The ballroom overlooks the golf course, and you can see what seems for miles.
We had the same problems with getting married in church- my FH is Methodist, and I am Catholic, which made it a problem for my church. So, we decided on the simple solution- getting married at the hall.
I'll let you know how it goes!

Re: For those of you who are getting married or have gotten married at your reception hall..I need help PLEASE
1. I did walk down an aisle. It may not be a traditional church aisle, but my hall (&every hall I know & talked to) do set up an aisle, which to me felt very much the same, & even better since we were able to be outside, which was wonderful. My mom & I came up with the decorations for my altar & she set it up herself the morning of. And my florist made arrangements for my aisle which were beautiful & were able to be moved into my hall during our reception easily to do double decorating duties.
2. We used Pastor April Gismondi, who is a vendor on here & she made my ceremony the most beautiful one I could have ever imagine! My guests still talk about her today. She will customize your ceremony to however you like & her whole approach is just amazing. I should say though that I am not catholic, nor is my DH & we did deceide to have a wedding without religion involved. But Pastor April will perform any ceremony you want, so don't count her out because of what we choose to do.
3. Nothing like that for us.
4. I think you can keep your BP as large as you want.
5. Don't let your family pressure your ceremony choices. THe ceremony is a very personal part of your wedding day & you & FH should have the ceremony you want, not what they want. DH & I did our ceremony our way & what it added to our wedding day was amazing! And trust me, I don't think all of our family was too keen on the whole bit either, but all were amazed & raved about the outcome.

I don't know if this would be an option for you, but we had a friend of ours ordained online. We wanted something personal by someone who knew us. At first, my parents were concerned about the legallity of it, but he (and FH) is registered with NYC and the state to perform marriges. I am not sure that it would work for your situation, but thought that I would let you know that it is an option.

Re: For those of you who are getting married or have gotten married at your reception hall..I need help PLEASE
I know that everyone else has answered, but i figured i'd add my thoughts as well to help you out!!!
1- Did it feel like an actual ceremony even though you did not get to walk 'down the isle'
yes it did - i even cried as i walked down the aisle and it was an incredibly special moment!!!
2- Can you recommend someone who would make our cermony special and unique to us.
we used reverend michael callahan - he made it very special...and very personal - people though he'd known us for years....but we only met with him twice before the rehearsal!! we got lots of compliments on how sweet and special and personal our ceremony was...
3- Is there a pre-cana class required or just consultations....
we didn't go to any pre-cana classes, or any classes at all for that matter!
4- We have a large bridal party....we want to keep it that way ...because all of these people are so special to us....even if they don't stand with us during the ceremony
we didn't have a large bridal party...we had 4 girls and 5 guys, but they all stood with us through the ceremony....i could see all of them at all times....
5- I am worried how my CATHOLIC family will react
my CATHOLIC mother and grandmother had a little trouble with it at first....but they eventually got used to the idea that the church is more important to them than it is to me....and after it was all said and done, i believe they were quite satisfied and happy with the decisions we made.
Hope that helps!!!

We are interfaith, so we have a Priest and a Rabi. Msgr Lisante is amazing! He meets with you before, and you do pre-cana. I can't say enough about him.
