For those of you who are having makeup done

through someone who is not a LIW vendor, can you please let me know how you found them?

Did you go to a Dept. Store makeup counter, was it a refrreral, etc?

Just curious - why a non LIW vendor? There are some really great makeup artists who are vendors on this site.

I just went for my make-up trial last night with one my bridesmaids...I found her through my to be sister-in-law's wedding couple of years ago. She's through Mary Kay....I was nervous at first, but it wasn't a big deal at all and she's awesome. FM me if you want her name...she's in Deer Park.

Well that won't work then! I know that MAC does it...you just go there and a lot of their make-up artists freelance...just an another idea.

i went to Davids to try on dresses months ago (didnt even get my dress there) and i have gotten tons of calls from makeup/hair people

I have 2 really good friends who both work at MAC in roosevelt field and they all pretty much do makeup freelance. I can give you there #'s if you wanted!

I went to a salon that my SIL recommended (Majestic in Seaford.) It's near my brother's house, where we are getting ready.

Here is tip- before spending tons of cash on trials, see if any friends or family invited to the wedding do makeup. One of my best friends did my SIL makeup when my brother got married and then after spending over 150 in trials, my sister's roomate is doing mine as my wedding gift. I wish I done a trial with her before I spent all that money- that was a day at the spa for me!

I found out about Maureen Pedala on The Knot -- I was on there pretty often before I stumbled across LIWeddings The girls on there also have a lot of good ideas and I like to do research on both sites because girls on LIW use vendors that those on The Knot don't and vice versa (I'd never heard about Jackie before coming over here for example).

I am using a woman who has a salon in Staten Island....was referred by my best friend who recently got married. I was one of her bridesmaids and had this woman do my hair and make-up (she also has an assistant). Her name is Bea (pronounced Bee) and the name of her salon is Bea Beautiful...she also makes house calls but I'm not sure if she would commute all the way to Long Island and you would also have to guarentee at least 4 people will get either their hair and make-up done in order for her to come to your house. If you're interested FM me and I will be more than happy to give you her phone number. Might I add, she did an amazing job and only uses MAC make-up and of course whatever you have
