For those of you who are TALL

Original post by octobergirl

Where do you buy your pants and other clothes?

I am almost 5'11 and it is sooooo hard!

6'1' and always in heels. I'm definitely not about to change that on my wedding day. (Hell, FH is always surprising me with new heels. He wouldn't have it any other way either! )

As for pants:
Gap - Online Only - Extra Long. But let me tell ya'...they're truly long!!!! Finally! I believe they're 36' inseam.

Eddie Bauer carries Tall sizes and they are!!! They have nice dress pants for those who need clothes for work. (Suits too!)

Victoria's Secret - they carry Tall, but I'm usually unhappy with their quality. It's hit or miss with them, but at least they don't charge a fortune.

Talbots carries Tall. There's an outlet in the Mayfair shopping center in Commack. May be worth checking out!

JC Penney - I heard they carried Tall, but I have yet to order from them.

Here's a UK store/website that carries some nice Tall clothing: Long Tall Sally

And like previously mentioned:
Express which is usually too short for me.
NY&Co.

Re: For those of you who are TALL

I'm tall, but not as tall as most of you. I'm 5'7', but I'm small overall (size 2) and I love high heels too! I find that the smaller sizes tend to be cut shorter. That doesn't make sense. Some people are tall and thin! I hope nobody flames me for that, but it's true. I used to be a size zero, but if I bought that size, all my pants looked like knickers! At least if they are too long, you can get them shortened, but you can't really add length, unless there is a hem. And for all you tall people, how annoying was it when cropped pants came into style? That's what I was wearing for most of my childhood, getting asked, 'Where's the flood?' and now they come into style?! So I tried some on and they were like those long shorts that were in style when I was growing up! Remember jams?! GRRRR! I just can't win! Forget about dresses! I remember trying on prom dresses when I was in high school and most of my friends were wearing those short flouncy dresses. Those barely even covered by butt!
Now, I have luck with Mavi jeans and Banana Republic has tall, but that can get expensive. I've tried NY & Co., but even their small tends to be big on me! No fair!!! I usually wind up buying things that are too big and just having them altered!
Thank you for allowing me to vent. This is something that has bothered me for a long time now. Can anyone relate?

helene718 - I am not as small as you but I can relate (although when I was hs - thru age 25 I was a size 2..)- I tried to say something similar in my earlier post. I have seen sizing charts that once you get to the 8 the inseam is two inches longer. So size 6 and under girls have to be shorter??? I never got it!

I am so glad longer skirts are in style. When I first start working - I even had a hard time with skirt suits - I always looked like I could be on Melrose - definitely not appropriate in the business world. Now at least the skirts usually hit close to my knee - much more appropriate!

I love that capri came in style. Although I like to buy ankle or regular length pants and wear them as capris! hehe!

Neicey - Why do they do that? It's not fair! (as I stamp my feet and pout!) As far as suits, I have almost all pant suits (size tall pants), except for one that I bought too big and then had altered. Of course, I gained weight since then and I need to let it out, but the skirt is still something that reminds me of something that Ally McBeal would wear! I have to be really careful when sitting in that suit!

Re: For those of you who are TALL

yea why is it that larger sizes are longer? What if size 4 or 6 ladies are tall (like I am?)
I'd like to have a word with these designers

If you get a JCrew catalog or go to www.jcrew.com, you will see that almost all their pants come in Tall sizes, which is a 35' inseam.
I am 5'9' and the Tall is too long for me!

EvenEden - Thanks! I just checked though, and only one pair comes in a size 2 tall, all of the rest start at size 4. Thanks for trying though.

Re: For those of you who are TALL

I'm not as tall as some of you (5'9' - no matter who tells me I'm taller I refuse to say it!) and taller than all my friends (do you hate the 'tall chick' reference as much as I do?) All my jeans are from the gap. I'm always on a mission for slacks that fit and when I find them, I do anything to keep them - I have 2 pair that I had altered from a size 12 to a 6 because I knew I'd never find another pair that fit the same way! But mostly I shop in NY&Co., Express - anyone that carries long. Limited usually is just a little to short.

Petite sized clothes irritate me because there are always a lot more of them then there are tall sizes!

Edited to say: My prom dress was a gown cut to be knee length because otherwise my a$$ would have been hanging out - as was the case anytime I tried to wear a skirt! thats probably why I wear pants all the time!

Re: For those of you who are TALL

Oooh...I had to chime in! I'm 5'10' and after years of wearing floods and nothing but skirts I have found that I LOVE men's jeans. I always get Levis 501-my inseam is 36 inches and mens jeans are all I can find that are long enough. Plus, they're really flattering and comfortable!
I also love Ann Taylor Loft-I wear a size 10/12 and I found that all their pants are a great length!

Re: For those of you who are TALL

I'm 5ft 11in - I hate shopping sometimes because the jeans are always too short! For christmas I got jeans from Express, they come in LONG and I can actually wear a heel with them!
