For those of you who had 'backyard e parties'

As you know, been having trouble w/ finding a cheap location. I still want to have it in a vfw type hall but my maid of honor last night said I could have it in her backyard as well( bless her!) The only problem with that is how far she lives from most of us...BUT then i thought..WHERE will everyone park? I know this is a silly thing to worry about , but if we have 50-60 people, where will all the cars go? And one more thing, if we have a dj...can we really get people to have a 'party feel' on the lawn? Ideas/suggestions...websites for throwing an outdoor party? Something else to stress about! lol

I had a backyard engagement party and it was great. If anything I think we had more of a party feel because it was more relaxed. Everyone was dancing and having a good time. So don't worry about that. As far as parking goes I would ask the owner of the house if it is normally a problem when they entertain. Ask her to let her neighbors know what is going on, and when people call to RSVP I asked them to please carpool as parking would be an issue. Best of Luck.

we had a backyard e-party and it was wonderful!
we had about 40-50 people probably and there were no parking problems.....and my street has very strict parking restrictions!
we didn't do a dj...we used a stereo and some favorite cd's of ours....it was very low key and very simple...but a lot of fun!
good luck!

We had a backyard e-party about 50-70 people. During the day we had just the a CD player. We kept it low key. I asked my close friends and family to each bring a dish. We had more than enough food! So, we saved a lot of money on food. We decorated and got tables and chairs. Then at night after the grandparents, cousins, parents etc...... left. We had the afterparty! Went on till all hours! I passed out by 3am . We had a blast! But FH's brother did warn the neighbors.

Good Luck!

i have to say having a backyard E party was the best thing my FMIL ever suggessted!!!
It was so wonderful not having a set time to go home...we rented a tent catered food decorated the whole backyard and front lawn and the day was so gorgeous! I burned CD's and my FBIL played them i had all different types of music for dancing and we went to the Police Station to find out if we need any permits and they said no. Our neighbors were invited (the ones we like) and the ones that we dont like (well they hate us) we ALWAYS have LOUD LOUD parties we could care less!!!!!

JMO...i think its so much more fun when there is no worry about the time and its a bit more dress down! Parking was not an issue People find parking dont u worry about them! We had people that live near one anohter carpool. And NO ONE had a problem with it. if you want pictures for ideas FM and i will send them to you!

Re: For those of you who had 'backyard e parties'

I had my e-party in my sister's backyard. I wanted it at her house because I felt that it would be more intimate and more fun to have a house party. We actually held the entire party (all 70 people) on her deck. I went out of my way to make sure it was not what people would expect from a 'backyard party.' People were so suprised when they walked outside. It turned out so beautiful, we had an amazing time!! It didn't necessarily work out to be cheaper, but I also spent alot of money on decor, awesome food and tons of alcohol.
Here is my link to the thread with my review and pics. Our E-party

outside engagement parties rock. We had ours in August, and it was real casual and we had a ton of people there, and the best was that their was not time limit. and everyone partied and stayed overnight.

it was great!

You all have me excited, I'm glad too because I wanted to wait a few months and now will need to due to weather. The only problem I canthink of is that at he houes, there is no 'deck' and not too much cement for a tent..can a tent be placed securly on a lawn, I'm also leaning more towards not having the DJ...too loud etc...Thanks everyone so much, I am mush more excited...more ideas welcome!!!!!!!
