We're paying for the full thing, and only invited people we want there, and didn't really ask others what their thoughts were on it. We wanted a very small intimite wedding, and asking others for who they want there would totally ruin that. We also both got really lucky because neither of our parents butted in with who's coming and who's not coming - they respect that it's our decision in the end.

No, I didn't limit the amount of people they could invite. My father invited a few friends of his that I've known since I was a kid and same with MIL. After all they've done for DH and I for the past 20+ years, paying for their friends to party with us wasn't that big of a deal.

I can't wait to see the list I get from FMIL....FH seems to think she is paying for all her work friends but I don't think she thinks that. For the eparty & our STD I got a list of 10 i think, which is fine. Anymore than that I might have to say something. My thought is are they really worth the pp you are paying, if not they belong off the list or on the 'B' List

We paid for the whole thing, but gave both sides free liberty to invite whomever they wanted, we didn't put a limit on it

Re: for those of you who had parents (or in laws) who did not pay for the wedding?
My FH and I are paying for everything, we specifically don't want help from the families because we dont want them to have a say in it....haha.
My mom made a very rough list when i first got engaged....i looked at it and laughed. It was too long, and full of too many people i didn't know and it basically pissed me off. We didn't sit down and discuss it yet, but i know its going to be a heated argument, but in the end.....I'M PAYING and its MY wedding.
I have a high minimun (250), but i SO rather fill up those spots with friends than family that i've never met.

Re: for those of you who had parents (or in laws) who did not pay for the wedding?
My future inlaws are not paying for anything and I am getting married at a smaller venue. My fh and I are paying for most of it and my parents are giving us some $ toward everything. I had to limit the # of people they can invite. My fmil originally gave me a list of 50 ppl and then after i booked a small venue changed it to close to 100 ppl. So i had to tell them that if they were willing to pay for the venue change and the extra people then i could invite them all. If not, then it simply could not happen. It is hard to make these kinds of decisions but sometimes you have to put your foot down.

Fmil is forcing us to invite 8 of her friends, whom FH and I have never even met before, and she's not even offering to chip in for those people, let alone chip in for the wedding. I should of said no, oh well. Smh

We are paying for everything on our own, and we are NOT extending guest lists to any parents because of that - if you don't pay, you don't get a say!

We are paying for everything (my mom paid for my dress and veil though). I already knew we would invite my mom's best friend and his aunt and husband. Outside of that we didn't ask if they wanted anyone invited because we wanted small and intimate and that is what we are having

Re: for those of you who had parents (or in laws) who did not pay for the wedding?
I limited FH's family to immediate only....originally they wanted 200 for JUST his side,...now we have 20 :) No money, not coming. I don't know you? We haven't met in the 8 years we've been together? Sorry, not coming.
After everything, we are having a separate ceremony for his family (different faith 5 months before), which FH's parents ARE paying for, and are not giving me spaces to invite people from my side to (other then my parents)

we are paying the whole thing ourselves we told fh parent they could make a small list, my parents were barely invited themselves so they got no say.

We gave each set of parents half of 1/3 the total guests. Meaning, we have 150 guests, each parent set got 25.

Re: for those of you who had parents (or in laws) who did not pay for the wedding?
i didn't limit the amount because my FMIL's list had 90 people on it and about 50 of them are OOT. if she gave me a list with a ton on it though, i probably would tell her that she could have about 75 people and then anything above that, they'd have to pay for
