No, I didn't limit the amount of people they could invite. My father invited a few friends of his that I've known since I was a kid and same with MIL. After all they've done for DH and I for the past 20+ years, paying for their friends to party with us wasn't that big of a deal.

Booking the wedding under the assumption we were paying for everything (hence, it's 2 years away) we did not give a limit to parents. We wrote a rough draft of list and the guests our parents wanted to invite, were pretty much there anyway. We probably added about 10 more in total than we thought. But so far our parents have really chipped in with hall payments, extra money for down payment of house, etc... so we really cant complain anyway

My FH and I are paying for everything. I was so overwhelmed with making the guest list that we sat down with each of them like OK, who do we invite? I regret this big time. My dad had hardly anybody on the list. He didn't even want to invite his own sister. ALthough he has a 6 year old son from an ex gf and he wanted to invite his whole family (inc his siblings--kids!) but I didn't complain bc those were the only weirdo extras. FMIL came over the next day and handed me a typed list and said this is the list I used for his (FH's) brothers wedding. Period. the end. Now her bestie from elem school and random old lady aunts I've never met are invited. I had no say, and we are the ones footing the bill. Big time regret.

I think you need to sit down and have a rational talk with her, put things in persepctive and say what you want your wedding to be, full of people you know and love not strangers, also bring the cost into play, be understanding about her feelings but deff tell her how you feel about the growing list.. good luck~!

we're footing the entire bill.... i didnt limit the guests. FH is FMIL's only son so i know its important for her to have anyone she wanted and im the only daughter my parents will marry.

We're paying for the full thing, and only invited people we want there, and didn't really ask others what their thoughts were on it. We wanted a very small intimite wedding, and asking others for who they want there would totally ruin that. We also both got really lucky because neither of our parents butted in with who's coming and who's not coming - they respect that it's our decision in the end.

same here! when my mom said something about inviting her co-workers who i don't really know, i told her she could pay for people individually. she never asked how much and never mentioned inviting them again!

I got into a huge fight with my mother about this. She is not paying for the wedding and has not said she would contribute. I asked her months ago for a list of people, and it was about 4 couples. Ok..fine. Then I order invites and fast forward ...time to send invites out...and she gives me a list of 15 ppl, not including the ones she gave earlier. I told her that since I might run out of invites, that I need to put them on the B list and if they do come, I would expect her to pay for them because it is not fair that I don't know these ppl from a hole in the head and she just wants to show off. ugh. selfish!!!

My advice: Talk to your FH and have him sit down with his mom and explain that the wedding is costing alot of money and tell him to ask her if she could contribute to cover the cost of their seats.

No limit though there weren't many. FIL's invited a few of their close friends but FH and I would have invited them anyways (they are at a lot of family events).

we're paying for everything ourselves so before we started looking at venues and all that stuff we set up a budget and our guestlist so we knew how many people we wanted to invite, how much we wanted to spend per person and how much we wanted to spend in total. My mom is only allowed to invite some friends but not alot, mainly people I've known my whole life. Same with FH's family. So far we have been on budget (i've gone over here and there) but keeping on budget is extremely important when you and your FH is paying for everything.
