Original post by bkbaby4life

my friend is having her shower soon and i'm obviously getting her something off her registry. but i feel lame just giving her that. there's no element of surprise...no thought put in. :-/ am i being dramatic? should i just get her something off her registry and not think much more about it??

i always thought that too, until I became a bride-to-be. I always hated getting people something as 'impersonal' as a gift off their registry. But now I'm realizing that with my shower still yet to come, i am HOPING people don't think like I used to. I REALLY REALLY wanna get every last thing off my registry.

However...
A good friend of mine just recently had her shower and because I was away during it, I ended up missing the whole thing. So to play it safe I didn't get her something off her registry and instead made it something really special. My favorite thing to do is to get some a little naughty for the bride-to-be. I happened to remember a certain fantasy she has once told me that her FH had about her, so I bought her something accordingly It was something she absolutely LOVED and obviously he will too (he doesn't have to know it was from me tho. lol).

So that's my advice. If you really don't wanna get something off the registry, make sure it's at least something personal that you KNOW she wants. Not just some lovely knicknack. I'll be annoyed if people get me things that'll just clutter the house in place of what I actually need.

I don't think it's lame, and I don't think she'll be unhappy getting the things she wanted and put on a registry. Maybe if you wanted, you could throw a little something in with it if it makes you feel like cheesy like if you get her a baking set maybe get her some cookie cutters, or pick up an album to put her wedding/honeymoon candids in.
