for those of you who had showers/attended showers....

my friend is having her shower soon and i'm obviously getting her something off her registry. but i feel lame just giving her that. there's no element of surprise...no thought put in. :-/ am i being dramatic? should i just get her something off her registry and not think much more about it??

I think that she will be more excited if she got all or most of the stuff from her registery. It's sorta like the ulitmate wish list, and hoping that it all comes true! LOL.

For my good friends shower last year I ordered a few important things off her registery, and to add that final personal touch I got a basket and put all scrap book things in it... stickers, books, ribbons..the whole k-bang. when she got her pics she was able to make her own wedding scrap book...

get her something from the registry, and if you want to give her something more personal, maybe another small gift. one of my friends did this for me. but the whole reason you register is so you have a wish list of items for people to choose from. i stalked my registry religiously, so i knew what i was getting, but was still surprised by who got me what.

I say buy her something really nice off her registry. My FG (actually my sister) bought me my waterford picture frame for the wedding pic, and now I think of here everytime I see it.

For people I'm closer to I always get something off the registry, but then get something personal as well. I've done the 'soon to be...' hoodies, or will get a few nice pieces from VS for the honeymoon...

Maybe add lingerie, or I usually get stuff off the registry that stays with a theme (like baking), and make a basket out of it adding some smaller things (cookie cutters) that also fit the theme.

i loved getting things off my registry bc honestly they were things i REALLY wanted. I have to say that i got some things that weren't on my registry and while some were real nice and i loved it, there were just some things that really were not my style at all. First of all i had ALOT of plate options on my registry, quite a few to pick from infact. But somebody decided to get me something completely different that is not my style at all. Then i feel bad bc its like great now i have to use it sometimes, i dont want somebodies money to go to waste. But if they looked at my registry they would've seen that everything was pretty modern, and this was the complete opposite. I dont like flowers, butterflies or any of that on plates and this was.

So it all depends, if you are getting something for the house. Remember that they are picking it for a reason, also it goes with a certain theme usually. They know what color scheme they will have in the home, they pick appliances and other home stuff so that it all goes together and matches.

If you want to get something off the registry PLUS a little something then that is fine. I was a bm recently and for my friends shower i bought her china off of her registry but i also bought her lolita martini glasses and 3 photo albums

For my close friends I put pregnancy tests in their wishing well, everybody has a good laugh and nobody ever knows who put it in!

If you are going to get something off the registry just make sure you include gift receipts. I received some dishes that were not on my registry, and when we went to return them they were giving us the lowest selling price. So it wasn't worth returning them, and now I have these 5 plates that I have no use for.

Maybe if you include a scrapbook, some lingerie, or something sentimental with the gift.

I don't kow, but my face was priceless when I opened it at my shower. You def could tell I was not impressed.

She registered because that is what she wants. I hated when people bought off my registry at my shower. Call me a brat I don't care, the registry exists for a reason, I'm telling you what I want.

She'll be very happy with anything you get her off of there and will not expect anything else or different.

i know, i felt like 'ok did you not like what i picked' what was the need to get something else. So of course i hate to think this but i thought maybe it was something that was given to them and they had around the house and just gave it to me. Or somebody pushing their style on me.

I would get something off the registry (after all they register for it because they want it) and maybe throw in a little something more personal like as a surprise..

I would definitely stick to her registry and maybe get something else also. A gift card or a tank top/hoodie/pants that say ' Soon to be Mrs. ________' would be a great additional gift!!!! You could also check out Things Remembered in the malls for other personalized gifts.
