For those of you who had your own invites printed...

I'm wondering how much it costs to have them done and where did you go? Our Best Man in a graphic designer, and I'm thinking about having him design our invites, but trying to decide if it's cost effective. Any info you have would be appreciated. TIA! :o)

Re: For those of you who had your own invites printed...

My FI is a graphic designer and he had literally hundreds of designs...our major problems

1- Where to print them
2- Getting Envelopes to fit the deign

It kinda sucked having an envelope dictate the size of the design. You can have custom sized envelopes but then you may incur extra postages charges.

I felt really uncomfortable having the invites sent on to a company (over the web) especially if they screwed up I thought it might be more difficult to fix

Most times you can not go to a staples or kinko's because they can do an embossed ink. Many printers who can do an embossed ink can only print in 2 (max of 3 colors) and the colors really cant intersects

All in all our invites ran us 275 for 100 invites, 100 invite envelopes, 100 response cards, 100 response card envelopes. Everything was ebossed writing even the addresses on the envelopes. It was a very stressful expirence but it was worth it in the end because my FI was happy

I hope this helps--sorry it is so long

I think i got 125 invites, inner&outer envelopes, rsvp and reception cards with return addresses on the outer and rsvp envelopes and thankyou cards for a little over $300. I got it at www.theamericanweddingalbum.com. There's also a cool place in mineola called you're invited on jericho trnpke..the woman paula was fantastic!

good luck!

i tried finding a printer for our save the dates and wanted to kill myself.

all reputable places only worked with a minimum of 500.

Maybe you can contact other designers to see who they use??

i went to Sharp Image located at the corner of Spring St and Bowery. i ordered 300 invites and the total came out to approx $360. it includes invite, invite envelope, rsvp and rsvp envelope. it's a coincidence they had the paper i wanted but they may or may not have the paper of your choice. if they don't i think you can buy the paper elsewhere.

A girl I used to work with has designed our invites. I am meeting with her on Friday to pick out 'paper' for the invites as well as envelopes from a store around where I used to work.

Our invite 'run' is fairly small, so I will let you know what kind of quote she gets from the printer for...

1) Invite and RSVP
2) Invite, RSVP, Program cover, direction cards, etc.
