For those of you who have BM's out of state

For those of you who have BM's out of state

Might be a dumb question, but how are you handling the BM dress situation if you have Bms that live out of state? Are you ordering from a place like Davids Bridal so they can go to a local store near them, or are you just ordering a dress from a local store, based on their measurements and sending it to them to get their alterations done locally? Not sure how to best approach this... Thanks!

i am in the same boat...i will have a few of my BMs out of state...I haven't decided what to do. I could do Davids Bridal...but I am not a huge fan of them mainly bc of the terrible customer service myself and several of my friends experienced for a friends wedding. However, trying to ship them all their dresses would get expensive...i'm torn on what I should do.

I have 2 OOT BM's, one is in NJ which isn't too much of a problem for her to come back and forth for her dress. The other BM is in Kentucky. So i'm hoping to get the dresses from David's Bridal so that she can go to the one closest to her and do everything there.

I have one in Florida, she is coming in for Christmas so we are ordering the dress then bc I can't wait till next August for her to come home.

Otherwise, I would suggest finding a salon near the bm to order it from.

Sorry, crasher here So I am an out of state BM for my sisters wedding in April and basically she tried on a few dresses herself, picked one she loved then just got all our measurements and ordered them from the bridal store on LI. I have one fitting squeezed into christmastime on LI when I will be home then the wedding in april. I was also an OOT BM in my friends wedding in August and did the same thing, then she shipped it out to me, I got it fitted out here and carried it back on the plane with me for the wedding. Let me tell you what a PITA it is to try to not ruin a BM dress on a plane!! Just thought a little experience from the other perspective might help!!

the only problem with that is that some dress companies what you to place the order all together so that they can dye the whole batch at the same time...that way the dresses aren't slightly off.

For my sister's wedding, we ordered Bill Levkoff gowns and the bridal shop wouldn't place the order until all girls had called in their measurements for that reason.

what about having them go get measured at a local place to them and send the measurements and have the dress shipped to them and have them get the alterations?

i am a BM in 2 out of state weddings next year! For one of them I have to travel to jersey for my fittings... i got to call in my measurements which was one less trip... as for the other one, the bride just told us all to purchase tea length black dresses... really easy on the bank so that was helpful.

Re: For those of you who have BM's out of state

i was a BM in a wedding a few years ago and we used david's bridal, but it was on in PA. we had to get measured and order our dresses at the same time so that all the dresses would be from the same dye lot. then david's bridal shipped them to our houses and we got them altered locally.

for my SIL's wedding last year, all of her OOT bridesmaids called her with their measurements and then we went to the wedding center in commack to place the order. she brought the dresses to the BM's when they came in and they got them altered locally as well.

it's up to you what you want to do. i've personally had some negative experiences with david's bridal, so i would go somewhere else.

I am planning on finding a dress place where my soon to be SIL lives that sells the same dress as I am ordering. That way she can just order and get it fitted by her.
