For those of you who have gone/are going to Tahiti......

I am thinking of going for my honeymoon, and trying to do a little research before I go to the Travel Agent. Which Islands and hotels/bungalows would you recommend? I was thinking of Tahiti, Bora Bora and Morrea. How many days is good enough to go for?
Thanks
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

We're going to the same islands you listed. We're only staying on Tahiti for one night because most people say it's not worth your time. We're staying at the Interncontinental Beachcombers in overwater bungalows at all of the islands. We're going for 11 days which I think is the perfect amount of time.

here's a link to a thread i started on tahiti .. it has some great websites on it that should really help you with your research.

My DH and I went to Tahiti in June 2001. Definitely do not make a priority of staying more than 1 night on the main island of Tahiti - there's really nothing exotic about it. However, if you do stay there for a few nights, The Beachcomber is a great hotel.

On Moorea, the water is nice, but not as breath-taking as on Bora Bora, so if you want to manage your budget, choose a garden or beach bungalow on Moorea. We stayed at the Sheraton Resort and Spa, and I highly recommend it. The service was outstanding, although the food was just okay IMO.

Another option on Moorea is the Beachcomber - also highly rated, and lots of couples we met while there really enjoyed that hotel. Just FYI.

On Bora Bora, you will definitely want to shoot the lock off your wallet and go all out for the overwater bungalow. The water is GORGEOUS and you'll want to be as close to it (or in it) as possible. We stayed at The Pearl Beach Resort and it was absolutely impeccable and the food was unbelievable. Definitely do the meal plan, b/c you will save money on breakfast and dinner and you won't have to leave the resort to find food elsewhere.

Another hotel on Bora Bora that is fabulous is the Lagoon Resort. I've heard great things about it.
Good luck - it's the trip of a lifetime! FM me if you have any questions.

I just returned from Tahiti yesterday. It was amazing. We did not intend to stay in Tahiti at all and planned to fly to Moorea upon our arrival. But the night we flew into Papeete there was a heavy storm and we were not able to fly to Moorea and was given accomodations at the Sofitel near the airport which was horrible. We stayed at the Pearl Beach resort in Moorea in an overwater bungalow and it was fantastic. We stayed in Bora Bora at two different hotels in overwatet bungalows- Bora Bora Lagoon Resort and the Bora Bora Nui - both are excellent. The Bora Bora Nui is new -opened for about 6-8 months now and it was the ultimate in luxury and size (1000 sq feet) - I felt like I was a queen there. Then, we went to Huahine and stayed at Te Tiare Resort, which also part of the Pearls Resort chain, here it was more private and less commercialized as compared to Bora Bora and Moorea. We went for two full weeks.
