Okay, let's take LIW for example...

If I were to say, 'there is an option for 'planning' on the top of the board'

Would you think I meant, there is a TAB for planning on the top of the board...or that using the Planning tool is OPTIONAL?

I just had a huge issue at work and was qouted as saying that the use of a certain feature was 'optional'. What I SAID was 'when you enter the system, there is an option for XXX'

I would think it is one of the CHOICES I can make!

I would immediately look for a button, link, menu or tab that said 'planning'.

Same here. Something that I could use if I wanted to but did not need to in order to use the sight.

Agreed. I think it would be one of the ways you can access a feature or program.

ETA: Is this the same dimwit that stole your name tag?

nope, never did find out who took it (and then returned it)

But, the whole point was that part of our job is to do a lot of documentation, and we have a system for it.

When a new colleague had NO IDEA in the world how to do it, I was trying to give her instructions, so I said, 'there is an option in our database for that'

WELL, now I have been quoted as saying, 'it's optional to do that'

NO, that's NOT what I said. I was using the word 'option' in the technical sense, not in the 'do whatever the hell you want' sense...

The person who quoted you is an idiot.

A few of my coworkers agree with you

It's just that the couple who don't agree mentioned to my BOSS that I said, 'it's optional'

I was furious today! I even wrote him an email to say:

Hi John,

I just wanted to let you know that when I used the word 'option' I meant it as computer option/computer tab. It has come to my attention that several of my colleagues thought I meant 'it's optional to do that'. That is not what I meant.

Thanks,
Loser who still works here (well, maybe I didn't write that last part)

He was out sick today, so I haven't heard back yet.
