For those of you with cats.....

What did you do to keep them out of the baby's room? I'm thinking of putting a screen door up so the cats can't get in there.

Re: For those of you with cats.....

I never had a problem with mine. I use to close the baby's door when he was sleeping at night and they use to once in awhile stroll in during the day to check it out. One thing I did which I think was good advice was I put up the crib early (sans bedding) so they could get use to it being around. They really are attuned to changes so it does impact them even before the baby arrives. If you want (although I never had the do this) you can cut a piece of cardboard the size of the crib mattress and up double sided sticky tape on it. Place it in the crib and if they get curious and hop in, they will hate the feel of the sticky tape on their paws and that will deter them from doing it when the baby is born. Just keep your eye on the cats and you will see how they react. Like I said, mine were fine. I never had any incidents at all.

BTW, Ive hear dof the screen on the door too, I dont think thats a bad idea either if you want to install it.

Re: For those of you with cats.....

we bought a device called a crib tent...got it at BRU. Looked like it would work as you zip it up and the cats would have no access to the crib.
Well it did not work well for us.
Cleo, our Ocicat, would lleap up, cling onto the mesh. This eventually caused it to separate.,..and pulled apart the zipper.
Many a time we find her on Juliannes comforter...but NEVER when the baby is in there.
We close the dr when she is napping ( that baby not the cat!) ...and close it during the day.

trouble is that cleo is very quick and sometimes sneaks into the room when I am absorbed in changing the baby..and I wound up closing her up in the room! ( imagine our surprise upon hearing a MEOW over the monitor!)

MIL is going to see tomorrow night if she can fix the zipper. If not, I will write the company.

Screen dorr would not work for us ..cleo would jump up on the screen and just dangle there...plus she knows how to open screen doors

Thanks. We may just try the screen door. It worked for some friends of ours when their children were little.

Re: For those of you with cats.....

A friend of mine has two cats and she had planned on installing the screen door, but it turned out she just didn't need to. When the baby was small she slept in the bassinet in their room and baby's room was off limits. When she was old enough for the crib, they just continued to keep the door closed and took the monitor everywher they went.

The screen door they were going to get can be found at home depot for $20. I actually have one on my side door, the light weight, wooden old fashioned kind. Per Kramer, it makes the 'Anytown, USA' sound when it closes!
