Did you find that a lot of places were unwilling to give you prices over the phone/email? I've been calling a bunch of places and emailing too and several places wouldn't give me any info by email or phone, they said I had to come in and make an appt. Others just don't even email or call me back! Well since I don't live on LI and can't get home to look at places til Dec this kind of poses a problem. Did anyone else ever have this problem? It kind of turns me off to some places if they won't just tell me!!!

When I start looking I notice that, If I am you I will call and tell them that you are out of town and you are not coming to LI until next year and will like to know their prices. Also you can ask here on the chat what prices other people had got for your time of the year and that way you have an idea. HTH

that is a good idea...
i have noticed that when i call places they wont give me information over the phone... i called one place left a VM and never got a call back... that was 3 months ago... so yea tell them you are out of town... they should be more helpful... tell them that you would like to know the prices and that when you come to long island you will make an appointment with them to see them and to talk more in depth about it

I used a magazine called 'Locations'. I got it at a bridal showcase, it was sooooo helpful!
I also came across some people who wouldn't tell me b/c they said 'I had to make an appointment and ask when I wanted to come in' to which I would always reply, 'I'm not going to waste both our times visiting a place only to find out its $250 p/p for the date I'm looking for, thank you' And as soon as I'd say that, they would tell me.
