Re: For those who are printing their own...
Printing your own what? Invites, menus, programs????
I'm doing my own programs using cardstock I bought at Michaels. I think it is standard 67 pound weight.
Vellum is a very light weight translucent paper.

Yes, for menus... and for direction cards to put in the invites.
Just confused about what type is the best paper for those.

I would get cardstock at the craft store. Regular paper won't be enough weight.
I printed my direction cards on cardstock. I did not want them to be flimsy.

im not doing this for my own wedding (as far as i know) but im pretty crafty and have done invites and what not for friends.
if you are only intersted in one side of the cardstock, id reccomend using a brand called Bazzill. they sell it online or in many scrapbooking shops. it has a phenomenal texture on one side. like a linen but with the thickness and durability of cardstock.
vellum is translucent paper. if you are printing on it through an inject printer, use a light ink setting and make sure you let each page dry. otherwise it can run and smear.
thats all i can think of right now. FM me if you need help!

I'm doing my own invites but using my reception hall and hotel direction cards.
For invites I'm using 80-100 lb. ecru (ivory) paper. You are probably thinking of that weight for your direction cards, they should be similar in weight to your invites but not necessarily as good quality or heaviness. 80 would probably do for you.
Personally, I know when I get those direction cards I don't use them, as do alot of ppl I know, so how they look is not important that important. If you can get them for 20 bucks, fine. Otherwise, why spend money on something they will definitely throw out.
Keeping invites is one thing, but keeping direction cards? Hmm... ;)
Vellum is heavy translucent paper, they are probably too elegant for direction cards....

I used cardstock from invitesbyyou.com. I think it's 80 or 100# and they will precut it for you, which makes life much easier. I think anything heavier will not go through the printer (or be really annoying like the envelopes ).

Oh and BTW I have a ton of 4x6 ivory cards left over if you want them (from my direction, accomodation cards).

Unfortunately I need white. But THANK YOU!!
I think I'm just going to take one of the cards with me to Staples or Office Max (one of those places) and just get something simple.Trust me, I'm not doing anything too fancy for the direction cards.

Yeah depending on what you need, you can just buy plain white index cards. It's like $1-2 for a pack of 100 and they are a heavier cardstcok. I used those for all my practicing before I printed on the ivory stuff

You think Staples will be a good place? I figure they've got everything paper-wise.

Yeah I'm sure they would have them. I think I got them at Office Max, but just look for index cards. You could probably save the trip and just go to the Ideal or CVS.

I checked out the Ideal the other day and they have a lot of stuff, but I'll try Staples or Office Max first because I am sure they're much cheaper
