For those who are watching their weight/diet

Is anyone trying to lose inches? I have noticed that I have gained inches, but weight stayed the same... I really want to lose them, without shedding more than 5-10 lbs, and going to the gym twice a week for the past month, I have only lost 1 lb, with no inches lost --> well my clothing doesn't fit better

I fit into my dress in September at david's bridal, and I am just hoping that the inches won't increase before the July wedding.

Note: I try to eat healthy, with 2 slices of bread w/peanut butter or cereal in the morning with coffee, average healthwise lunch - sandwich, sushi, occasional pizza or chinese, etc, and usually no dinner or a snack (apples, pears, yogurts).

Any recommendations? What kind of excercise should i focus on (I have been doing cardio/aerobics classes with occasional toning).

Re: For those who are watching their weight/diet

When you go to the gym, you said you don't notice inches coming off. Muscle weighs more than fat so the scale isn't going to show much difference. I'm sure that you are getting tone. When you have lunch, you can use whole wheat bread for your sandwiches. I know you're supposed to drink a lot of water every day.

Re: For those who are watching their weight/diet

Here's one tip - you should NEVER cut out a meal! That is not eating healthy... The Weight Watchers points system really works... I lost 10 pounds in about 2 months. It comes off slow, but pretty much stays off... Since then though I've gained 3, but oh well The best way to lose weight is to eat a few little meals throughout the day and NEVER past 8pm...

I hoped this helped a little bit, that's something I learned in WW.

Keep up the cardio! Also, if you are going to a gym and using machines, use less weight and more repatitions (sp?) If you use more weight it will only build up the muscle and make you 'bigger.' Let's see... oh yes.. keep up those toning classes too! They will keep the body firm! :o) I've just started Pilates and it's great - 20 mins and you workout and hardly sweat!

Anyway, if I only listen to myself once in a while I may actually look better!

Edited to say: Drink water, water, water! Thanks Novemberbride I forgot that tip!! :o)

Good luck!

Re: For those who are watching their weight/diet

Thanks girls for the advice... I just really have to try to stay motivated.

May be not drinking enough water is my problem, the only time I really drink it is while exercising, otherwise, I drink tea, and juice. I don't get the 8 glasses a day thing --> I don't think its possible to drink this much... I don't like the taste of water, even the bottled kind... I do like the carbonated waters (seltzer, pellegrino)... Lately, I have been trying to drink decaf teas, especially with the weather getting colder.

But perhaps I'll try to have some water at lunch today.

I think the water helps fill you up and it helps the skin at the same time. Whats better than that?

Re: For those who are watching their weight/diet

Def do cardio... and like NovemberBride said, stay away from the scale.. muscle does in fact weigh more than fat...

also, do you lift weights at all?? I suggest you do so.. if you follow a training routine properly, you will shed more weight..

Also, do not skip meals.. try and substitute your carbs.. instead of white bread, use whole wheat.. break up your 3 meals, into 5-6 smaller meals..

If you need any tips, let me know..

Re: For those who are watching their weight/diet

I wish I can do weightlifting, but my muscles bulk up too quickly. I think its genetic, b/c my dad has big muscles, and hardly does any exercise.

On the topic of skipping meals, I am not sure how to not do it... I am usually at work till 6/7 pm, and it takes me 45 mins to get home, so I end up traveling at meal time, then excercising and eating a mini snack after excercise.

Is anyone else working similar hours? how are you guys doing it? I can't do it in the morning either, I am in at 8am, and would need to get to the gym at 6am to be at work on time (which now sounds horribly early :-(

Re: For those who are watching their weight/diet

I usually work until 5:30 and then go to the gym.
Then I go home and have dinner.
Sometimes I wake up early and work out in the morning before I get ready for work. That usually wipes me out.
The closer it gets to the wedding, the less free time I have to do anything and I feel really bad because now of all times I really need to get the workouts in so I look my best for my wedding.

Re: For those who are watching their weight/diet

I also recommend WW. I joined in July and have lost 22 lbs. I've been on every diet throughout my life and am finding the points plan pretty easy to live with.

Re: For those who are watching their weight/diet

I would second the weight lifting in addition to cardio as a way to shed weight. As we age we do tend to lose muscle mass. Muscles constantly use up fuel/calories even when you are not exerting any effort (i.e. sitting, sleeping). So some say their metabolism is slowing down, but I think it has to do with the loss of muscles. I, too, thought that I would bulk up, but it is impossible to bulk up with our female hormones. I've been weightlifting (yes, I've done benchpress!) with my fiance now for a year and a half and have lost and kept off 5 lbs. without much change in my eating habits (I do tend to eat healthier - lots of chicken/fish, fruits/veg - fried food sparingly - and I do eat almost as much as my fiance). I am 5'2' and am now 107 lbs so 5 lbs is a lot for me. I've enjoyed getting toned and seeing actual muscle definition, without bulk. It is important to go regularly 3x/wk and it is helpful to have someone do it with you - I know I wouldn't have done this without my fiance nudging me to go.

As for your missing dinner, why don't you pick up those power/nutrition bars and keep them in your car so that you can have something nutricious without preparation.
