Did you go down and look at the furniture before purchasing? Do the stores deliver to NY?
We are looking at websites and cannot believe the price differences.
TIA!!

Re: For those who bought furniture in NC
We went down in August. We went to Furnitureland South and Robert Bergelin and Company. RB was like 20K for what we wanted so we bought at Furnitureland South. The set I bought matches something I have seen at Ethan Allen for $10k and I paid $3k

Re: For those who bought furniture in NC
I never went down there - I just called and place my order. Some stores say you have to go there - technically but I find most will sell to you no matter what.
I have used Rose Furniture and High Point Furniture Sales. Both times I was referred by a friend or family member. I usually just find what I like in a NY store and then call both of them for pricing and go with who is cheaper. They deliver to NY - with no problem...you just have to wait for a truck coming up this way - which in my experience is pretty frequent. With Rose, the trucking company they used would call me every week - I was holding them off. With High Point I was away the day they wanted to deliver - so I had to wait about 2 weeks more for the next truck - not too bad!

We went down to Furniture Land South last year. IT WAS AMAZING. I actually went to Ethan Allen saw what I wanted then went down to NC and just like mlp said... paid 1/4 the price!! From what I picked out in Ethan Allen and some other NY furniture stores, DH and I saved (and I'm not kidding) $9,000 in furnishing our house- with high quality furniture. So if you are considering going down there... for us with the amount of $$ we saved we completely justified paying for the flights & hotel stay down there.
FYI- you need at least 2 days down there to spend in the store. 1 day to look at everything and 1 day to buy everything and pick fabrics etc.
ETA- yes they do deliver to NY. We ordered our furniture in late Oct. the entire order was ready in Jan. and we had them keep it in their storage until April. They were awesome to deal with and when the delivery men came, they were SO sweet, they set everything up for us... put the bed together... entertainment center... my bureau... they spent like 3 hrs with us.

Re: For those who bought furniture in NC
I am planning on ordering my bedroom set in a few weeks. I found something I liked in a local store, and called one of the NC furniture stores to see if they carried the same make and model as the one I wanted. They do, and it's a whole lot cheaper then the store here. FInd something here that you like first and get the model and make!

Jodi I did a search on google for 'North Carolina furniture' and also a search on here - I remember alot of 'old timers' talking about NC furniture awhile back.
We are going to go down after we purchase a place. DH has relatives in NC - not close to alot of places that have been mentioned here but within driving distance. I found alot of places have hotels nearby - alot of people fly in just to shop in NC. Also there's a great town for antiquing in SC near DH's aunt's house so I may have to do that too.

Re: For those who bought furniture in NC
My parents have always bought furniture from Jones Brothers in North Carolina. I'm not sure if they're still there but we've had some amazing furniture and it's lasted a while!
