I definately disagree with this. I've always heard that you should do the floors last....that way it doesnt matter if paint gets spilled on it, or whatever.
That was what I thought too. But the floor guy and painter told me to do the floors first.
maybe because of all the sawdust involved when sanding the floors down...

if its hardwood, they lay the wood down, paint, then refinish - thats what ive been told

We did our floors first, while the house was empty. The micro-fine dust that it creates gets everywhere, even on the walls. Its impossible to keep out, even if things are covered..... When we painted, we just made sure our floors were covered. Its what worked best for us.

hardwood floors paint bathroom redo kitchen counter replaced paneling with sheetrock in 2 rooms new doors crown molding new french doors to replace the sliding glass doors new carpet
25-30k later ......

so far: -we ripped up the carpet and refinished the hardwood upstairs
-took down a load bearing wall to open up the living room & family room into one
-ripped out the drop ceiling in the kicthen and re-routed the plumbing
-tiled the foyer with slate
-replaced interior doors with solid 6 panel
-built custom closets in the master bedroom
-rewired the circuit breaker panel
in progress for this Spring: -total remodel of the kitchen
-install hardwood downstairs
-replace windows
-new front door
then we can get into paint & decor...
sad thing is the house didn't NEED work (other than new windows). The rest is just stuff we wanted to do.

Ithink the floors should definately be LAST. We are almost done renovating our house and the floors have taken such a beating. Between the construction dust and paint, they look horrible. I am so happy that we waited to have them done last. It should take about 3 days to do the whole house, it is going to be a pain but worth it in the end.
