Great question! Eagerly awaiting responses....we will probably skip video as well.

i didnt regret it. My cousin taped our ceremony which was most important to me so we have that. Our pics pretty much caught everything we wanted to remember.

That's what I was thinking too! Thanks so much for responding. We'll probably buy ourselves a nice camcorder and give to a relative to record the ceremony (also the most important to me). Maybe also to record the Mariachi performance at the RH.

Re: For those who did NOT have a video
I know two girls who just got married, and neither got video. They both regret it GREATLY. For the one bride, I taped some of the ceremony, but it's crappy quality..my arm is shaking, the sound goes out, and the power died at the worst times, so there are all these gaps wherein I'm changing batteries.
Even with all that, she CRIED when I gave it to her, because she was so happy to have something.
I was dead-set against the video. After all this, I'm getting one, no doubt. I heard that the weddngs went so fast, that they missed so many things.
And no, I don't work for a video company!

Re: For those who did NOT have a video
My FMIL said hiring a videographer was the BEST thing she ever did for her wedding (she was remarried 10 years ago).
She does actually regret spending a ton of money on photo albums.. FH said he doesn't even remember what herwedding album looks like.. but everyone watches the wedding video from time to time.. I've already seen it twice.
I think its a great investment...

Re: For those who did NOT have a video
i HAVE heard people say that they regret not having a videographer at the wedding. If i could afford it, i definitely would go for it. But since that's not even a possibility, I'm going to have a friend at least video the ceremony and she may even continue to video as much of the reception as she feels. I think I'll be fine with just that. The pictures are what REALLY matter, because quite honestly, those who do have their weddings on DVD barely ever watch it anyway. Maybe that first month, but never again. At least that's what i've heard from people with the DVDs. It's more convenient to just look through a photo album

Not at all - everyone I know who has a video never watches it.

Re: For those who did NOT have a video
I wasn't going to have one, but then i realized, I would definitely want it! I would want to remember how my FH looked that day, how I looked, how my parents and GPs looked. My cousins all got one and watch it. Knowing me, I would probably secretly watch it all the time.
Unless it is a financial issue, I think you will really regret it. You should try to budget it in. Maybe spend less on the things that don't last - like flowers, hair, make-up, nails, even the dress....

Re: For those who did NOT have a video
I think I started the same poll when I was planning my wedding. I was really nervous about not having video after my side of the family was deeply deeply disappointed about it. and DH's family was upset with us that we didn't tell them we weren't having it, because they said they would have brought their camcorders
I think this is something that is very much a personal thing. If you can imagine yourself watching them one day, then get them. I can't really picture wanting to see it. I remember it as I remember it and for me, with the memory is carried the emotion, not with the video.
Some of the guests got fuzzy bits of video of the ceremony on their digial cams, its cute, but nothing I would reproduce its sitting on my facebook for family and friends to giggle about.
On videographer said to me 'If you could see your grandmother's wedding video would you want to' Its stumped me. I didn't really know what to say. But after I thought about it I rather not. Its much more precious to me her words and the look on her face when she tells the stories. Maybe the details of the wedding captured in video means something to a historian or anthropologist.

Re: For those who did NOT have a video
i strongly suggest having a video...
it is a family herloom, that will be passed down. imagine your kids watching your video,
imagine seeing your parents, grandparents, who won't be around forever...
plus... the day will go so fast... it will be a blur and all those little details, that you spent so much money and time on will be forgotten fovever@@
i don't want to miss a second of my wedding day, my video is another set of eyes!!!
it is going to be the happiest day of our life and i will want to relive it!!!

Re: For those who did NOT have a video
I did not want video but dh did so we got it (after all...just about everything else was my decision!) Following the wedding, which was a whirlwind, I was SOOO glad he talked me into it since that was the first time I was like...wow....I had so much fun! It was such a nice wedding! I did not remember most of the wedding until I saw my video. If you can budge it in, I would recommend it!

Re: For those who did NOT have a video
I know its before my wedding, but we are having a video made.
One BIG reason I have for this is I have seen videos of my families wedding, especially with my young cousins, and I have heard people say
'See Ryan, that is your Great Grandfather.'
Not only does it preserve your day, but if you have family members you are close to, it acts as a way to remember them in good times, and to show them to your children
Thats one of my reasons

This is what I did. My uncle taped our ceremony b/c it was most important to me. I don't regret not having the reception taped.
