did you include songs that you liked as a couple or did you try to include a mix so that people with different tastes each got a song to enjoy?

Re: For those who did/will do CD Favors
I am not doing the CDs but my BF did for her wedding. Here is how she picked the music: she put their two wedding songs, my parent's and his parent's wedding song, her grandparent's and his grandparent's wedding song, her sister's and his brother's wedding song, the song she danced with her father, the song he danced with his mother and the rest were songs that meant something to them.

Re: For those who did/will do CD Favors
Are there any websites for suggested songs? Something that would say: These songs are commonly used for ___ etc.
We still haven't picked ours, and i have no clue where to start.

Wedalert has a ton of songs for each category. It's a great site because you can hear clips of all the songs.

Alina...Martha Stewart has a nice, much shorter list in her book (cant find on her website but maybe its there).
What songs are you having trouble selecting?

Re: For those who did/will do CD Favors
Stef: we havent' selected any songs yet.
We were planning to use 'Love Story' as our first dance, but since FH refuses to do private dance instruction, we'll try to use a version of viennese waltz Viennese Waltz
There is also a song in russian, about father/daughter stuff, and I may or may not use if for the father/daughter dance.
Other than that, I am pretty clueless, having been to only one wedding and not knowing a lot of traditional wedding songs.
I dont mind using something common for bouquet toss/cake/garter, but for mother/son - father/daugher we'd like something that's a bit more meaningful. Last dance we're also kinda clueless. Our MC unfortunately has not yet been helpful... When I ask him for lists of songs, he tells me that he doesnt' have them (or some other excuse) and claims that as long as he has our list a week before the wedding, he'll be ok. This makes me a little nervous, but I also trust him with 'ability' to play.
Originally we planned to include pop music songs that we like, and may still do so along with our wedding songs.

Re: For those who did/will do CD Favors
Alina - i would encourage you to forget what is used at most weddings...you should pick things that you and FH like. Im one of those people that hate hearing the same songs used over and over - I like to see the couples personality show thru everything. Since you have already picked a few songs, maybe select things in that genre that compliment those.
Also - you dont HAVE TO select specific songs for each part of the wedding, if you trust your DJ then he can decide what to play (and will probably select the more traditional choices). Just one way to alleviate some of the tasks if you dont really care one way or the other.
As for the CD, you can do what many girls do - just pick songs they like that have nothing to do with the wedding.
If you want traditional - here are probably the most used songs for:
Father Dance - thru the years, in my life, daddys little girl, butterfly kisses
Cake Cutting - The bride cuts the cake, When Im 64
Bouquet Toss - Its Raining Men, Independen Women, etc..

Re: For those who did/will do CD Favors
stef, thank you!!!
I'll listen to them when I get home and see what will work. I'll also look into the martha book.
What do you think about the waltz at the link?
I know its a sample. I think I'll try to find group viennese waltz dance lesson, practice a little and then have an instructor choreograph in a private session.

I cant listen to the waltz at work (no private office) but I think its a great idea. Waltz' are beautiful!
That being said, I think its a tough thing to learn on your own or in 1-2 lessons unless your husband is already a good dancer.

I was thinking of doing 3-4 lessons before, then a private, and then a couple more lessons later?
