For those who got a music band

How did you go about picking the songs to play? Did you only select special dance songs, or did you pick all the songs to be played? How much freedom did you give to the band, and also where did you search for songs/names?

I selected all the specifics like first song, entrance song, cake cutting, last song. Then I gave my band a list of songs I liked and hated so they could get an idea of my taste but told them to use their best judgement to keep everyone dancing.

I am doing exactly what Stef did.
I have heard this band play a lot in the area, and they know how to move the crowd, so I'll leave it to them

I only picked the songs for first dance and father-daughter dance. The rest I told them to choose based on what the crowd seems to be enjoying.

We did the same - picked all the special songs, and then told them that under no circumstances were any organized dances to be played and no conga line music. Other than that, they had free reign of what to play, and had the dance floor packed all night long.

I gave them a list of our 'special' songs such as first dance, parent dances, last dance. I also gave them a list of 'our' special songs and songs that I totally hate. You cannot really give a band a song-by-song list. They judge the crowd and what is working while they are playing.

Same here: I am including all the special songs and songs that really have special meaning to us.
