If you choose a designer dress, the designer makes the dress for you from scratch from her collection and you can customize whatever you want. I had mine made by Galit www.galitcouture.us
She's very pricey however- $5k+

I had my dress made by a seamstress in Port Jeff - very reasonable, $850 for dress and veil. She based the design off pictures I brought in and we went from there. FM me for details.

Re: for those who had their dresses made...
I got my gown made by April Designs on Ebay, the tailor Jeff Liu was amazing! I got a replica of an Eve of Milady 06' collection strapless ballgown with built in corset boning and gold embroidery. The dress was beautiful. The original Eve of Milady cost up to 2k, my replica version cost me less than $400. I would def recommend him. Contact info is found on my wedding review. If you need his email, FM me.

I just remembered another one-- Valentina's in Brooklyn. They also do custom made dresses. They work with ur price range there, woudl depend on what materials you're using- silk vs satin, addition of swarovski etc. I would definitely stop by there.
