I am the type who enjoys relaxing vacations where I could shop and sight see. My athletic side is limited to going to the gym, and that's about it- I'm not into strenuous vacations that call for bringing an old pair of sneakers, etc. From the pics I have seen from peoples trips there, it seems like a lot of sporty type things which I am not into... but it could just be that that's what they chose to do among other options.
I don't know much about vacationing in Alaska. Does anyone know if there's something for for me, based on that information?
TIA!

Re: for those who have been to Alaska.....
We are going there on our honeymoon. we are going to fairbanks and to anchorage, in winter, not on a cruise. we are going to go dogsledding, snowmobiling, to the arctic circle, to a hot springs resort and on a flightseeing tour. You can do so many things there, some are athletic, some aren't. If you go on a cruise in summer, the weather is not hot (in the 70s in the day, 50s at night) and you can basically do a lot of sightseeing .. doesn't have to be physical. Look up info on the cruises, you'll find stuff about their excursions, etc. The cruises are on the west coast of alaska. if you want to make your own trip like we did, you can do that too (i booked my airfaire and hotel through expedia). Juneau is an area we won't see that I would like to - check that out as well.
Good luck!

i wanted to do that, but dh wasn't all that into it - at least for the honeymoon. there are cruises you can take and train tours, helicopter tours, etc. you can go hiking etc., but there are definitely things you can do without much physical exertion. the cruises looked amazing.

I don't think you have to be that athletic to go to Alaska. FH and I are going for our honeymoon, next week!!!!
I'm super excited, we're doing half land half cruise. So we'll be going dog sledding, glacier walking, white water rafting, whale safari's, helicopter ride to see the bears, etc. A lot of that stuff doesn't require you to be 'tip top shape' although I'm sure the better shape you're in the less pain you'll be in later But just in case, I booked a massage on the last day of our cruise

alaska has A LOT of excursions for all types of people. we did do some adventurous things, however, we also did the white pass train ride and the helicopter to glacier (a must) and one day we were in hubbard glacier. a lot of people we met did bear tours and eagle tours, which are not active tours. we also did whale watching which is you just basically sitting on the boat...amazing. we also stopped off in skagway which had great shopping! we spent a few hours just doing that. i have a few pics in my album if you want to check it out.

Re: for those who have been to Alaska.....
I just got back two weeks ago from my honeymoon in Alaska. We went on the Serenade of the Seas which is Royal Caribbean. We Left out of Vancouver so we arrived a few days early so that we could see Vancouver.... there is a lot to do and it is beautiful. We really liked the cruise. We did an ATV ride in Icy Strait Point, a Canoe ride to a Glacier in Skagway and a helicopter ride where you land on a glacier in Juneau (we were also going to do a dog sled ride in Juneau but because of fog that part of the excursion was cancelled). Anyone that did the whale watching in Juneau and Skagway said it was amazing. There are plenty of things to do if you are not outdoorsy. I am not an outdoorsy athletic girl at all but I loved all the excursions that we did. Feel free to FM me if you have any questions.
Oh the only thing we said we would do differnet next time is go out of Seattle bc DH loves to fly JetBlue and the Royal Caribbean cruise is a little different out of there... I think you get to see more ports.
