For those who have job hunted lately...

What sources did you use? (ex: Newsday, Monster.com, etc) I am on the hunt and not finding much...

Check those out as well as each companies website.

Also networking. - Talk to friends, family, neighbors and see if their companies are hiring - personally I think this is the best way to get a job as they might know of openings that aren't advertised (many companies don't post their job openings). Plus you will already get an idea of what the job atmosphere is like if you know someone who works there.

Wanted to add. also look on individual companies websites.

I just recently started working again after being on unemployment for 5 months.
- I used all the internet sites (careerbuilder, nytimes, monster, hotjobs, flipdog, the vault, etc) You can check them yourself or just have them send you the newest updates.
- We were all laid off so my co-workers and I kept each informed and passed around jobs, head hunter info, etc.
- Let everyone and their mother know that you are looking - you never know what contacts they may have
- maybe try a parallel field/job position - Years ago I was a paralegal, lost that job but started a new career as an Exec Asst (some very similar job duties)
- Brush up on your computer skills (if applicable) - I lost a position because I didn't know Access
- Go on interviews even if you don't think you really like the job or $$. It's your chance to get in the door and sell yourself.
