How many months before the wedding are you going to look for a place to live if you plan to own?

i'm not 100% on this but I believe you have to close on the house before August to get the tax credit.

Re: For those who live at home
We are going to start looking in the fall. We are trying to avoid renting, and want to buy a place to move in to around the time we get married or soon thereafter...

Re: For those who live at home
We have started hunting! Mainly because of the tax credit!! It is super stressful. I just think about mortgages and get nervous. Im sure you all feel the same but it is so much planning a great wedding and looking for a house.

Re: For those who live at home
There is no way we would be able to afford buying a house and our wedding all at the same time...We are going to rent a place maybe 4-6 months before the wedding, then after the wedding invest our monetary gifts, get some interest and then put a nice down payment on a house. I told FH no babies until we get a house...he wants a house now lol

We are going to move in once we are married, in October of 2010. We were going to start looking six months before that. Is that enough time?

Re: For those who live at home
We will probably start looking for a place/go through the credit checks about 4-6 months before...I want to get FH settled in the apartment before I move in after the wedding. I think maybe 6 months is when we will definately start browsing for places

I plan to start looking at the end of this year. I want to be in our new apartment no later than a month before the wedding.

Re: For those who live at home
We are getting married in March and we are starting now. We just found out that 5 of the houses we were interested in were already in contract. I guess it's never too late to start.

I am afraid we will find something right away have to close right away and not be able to pay a mortgage with a wedding
