? for those who made their invites or are in the process...was it worth it?
I'm kind of back and forth about making my own invites. I have time, and I've looked at a couple sites, but I just don't know if I would really be saving money. Did they really save you money in the long run and would you do it again if you had to? TIA

personally, i think they are very time consuming and they don't really save you that much money. it may be worth it to just order your invites, it'll save you on a lot of headaches. don't get me wrong, i love my invites because i designed them and they go with my theme, but if i were to do it again, i would have ordered them instead.

i made my own but with store bought parts... like, I bought my pocketfolds from Katespaperie.com and I got the invite part itself from Invitationsbydawn.com and the inserts were designed by me and printed with Vistaprint.
I had priced out the style of invites, and yes, for me it was totally worth the time and effort. I spent less on 125 pocket fold invites than a lot of people spend on 'standard' invites.
you just have to do your homework if you know what i mean.
plus, the reactions we've gotten from guests is fabulous. people love them and keep telling our parents how 'US' they are.

I was thinking of making my own invites -- I did them for the engagement party, and it wasn't too bad. However, I think for the wedding, it is a lot more work. (You have the invitation and outer envelope, reception card, response card and envelope). Also, I think that some nit-picky people might notice that the lettering is not raised.
In figuring how much it would cost, I think ~$150 for good supplies at least. However, you can order inexpensive invites for aroung $300. You can always spice these up with some materials from Michaels, if you wanted.
IMO, a few hundred dollars is not enough of a savings to justify the time and headache it may be. I'd rather save on the dress or the flowers.

i made our invites & had so much fun doing them. i learned a lot more about design software that i use for work too.
i bought card stock online( and envelopes), picked up a color printer and spent a few days coming up with the design concept.
i enjoyed the experience very much, so for me it was worth it. i think we spent about $400 and still have a kick-a s s printer we print all our photos from.

I just read this post to my FH and he is screaming 'NO DON'T DO IT!!!!'
Basically, it took us a lot of time, which we really needed for other things. We saved some money, but not enough to justify the time spent. However, they did turn out beautifully.
So, my vote is if you have time, go for it. But if you are willing to spend a little extra money, there are some nice places to order some nice invitations for somewhat reasonable prices and not worry about the hassle of making the invitations.

I think if I had ordered invites, I would break even with the price but it's not about the price. I always wanted the first photograph of my wedding album to be my invitation with our wedding bands on it, or something similar. It's something personal and I get to design it.
I'm still working on my invites. good thing I started early. The idea is to enjoy it. I say go for it!

That is awesome that everyone liked them. I'm a designer and I work for a printer and my boss said he'd do my invites for free, so I was considering designing them myself, but I wasn't sure since we don't do embossing and almost every wedding invite has embossing, but after reading your response I am now leaning to designing our own. It does give it a personal touch of 'us'. Thank you.

we are doing our own...from scratch. It is a lot of work and sometimes FH and I argue (he helps me alot!!!) but I think it is soooooo worth it. I love how our invites have come out and I could not afford them otherwise.

If I were crafty, I would have. But I'm not so it wasn't even an option! However if you are, then I think it would be really cool & add a very personal touch!

I am thinking of doing my own. I really wanted this one from invitationsbydawn.com but it is now discontinued so I might scan in the sample and try to do it myself or have someone help me do it. Honestly, I am not sure about all of the 'expectations' of a wedding invitation but the sample I have is pretty simple. It is basically a 3-fold piece of paper with a pretty picture on it. It does not look like most invitations I see on this site. I don't really care what anyone thinks. I just want it to be 'us.'

Well I haven't started the invite process but a friend of mine who is getting married did her our invites. Well she had no one to help her and it took her about 3 weeks to do about 75 invites. Then she messed up on the reply cards so she had to buy a whole new set of invitations. She is currently re-doing them again.
I know it would be better to make them on your own as long as you have someone to help you because my poor friend is suffering because she has no one. So I think you should just think long and hard before you make that decision.

I say go for it if you have at least 1 day to figure it all out. I purchased my invitations on clearance last year (250 -5 boxes of 50- for $72 dollars!!!!) I just finished making them and sent them off for my engagement party. I also did a bit of calligraphy and they came out smashing. Think of all the other things your money can be used for... good luck!

im making mine myself...its def saving some money...and im very happy that on websites that have invites similar to mine are very pricey..and i also think its well worth it...i get to make them EXACTLY how i want them, and when people compliment them..i get to feel proud of myself that i actually did them myself
