Does anyone know how this works? Does the phtographer sign over the copy rights to you, or can you just do whatever you wnat with the negatives without being given a hard time? I just picked up my album and wont have my negatives for another 6 months..but was wondering how that works. Thanks!

Re: For those who negotiated their negatives...
I have great software that can fix up any pictures..so my plan was to have 5x7's made up from a few negatives, then I was going to scn the pic into my files and turn them into black and white that way, and then print them into 8x10's, so I was just going to take the negtives to Walgreens or somewhere like that..but didnt know if that was illegal or not, my guess is if I have the negatives, its not illegal anymore. I hope!

my photographer said one can buy a decent negative scanner in the $200 range. i know that one can also use a regular flatbed scanner, but i don't know what the difference in quality is, i plan on experimenting a bit...
check out CNET for options, i can't recommend anything yet because i really don't know too much about them.

Re: For those who negotiated their negatives...
well, with places that you get your negatives right away, they were probally satisfied with the amount of stuff (pictures, books, frames, etc) you brought from them....so they have nothing to lose in a way
on the other hand
if you just have them shoot the pictures and get 1 book with 12 pictures and then get your negatives just so you can save money in DIY or go to some place much cheapier, pass em out to family, the photoghaper loses money...
last time i check, photographers are in this to steal our money...
ask when you sign... waiting a year is not such a big deal.

There are photographers who don't like making albums. They charge a fee to shoot your wedding and tell you where to go directly to get albums made for less money. Most photographers send the books out anyway and charge a fee for that. If you do it yoursefl - you will save money. Peter Jacobsen does this.

You are funny, they do like stealing our money!!! When we booked, I asked about the negatives and we were told 6 months from picking up our album..
