For those who still live at home and FH's live at home too

Just wondering what you ladies are doing about living arrangements AFTER you are married. Are you looking to buy a house or get an apartment? Just looking for different thoughts on the matter. Thanks!

FH & I are in between, not really sure.

Apartment for us. The prices of homes are getting out of control and we don't want the responsibility as newlyweds. We want to enjoy our first year.....

Fi lives at home and I live at home. We have never lived together. We have been looking to buy a home since August. Came close to some deals but nothing yet. We are still looking. If by chance we do not find anything by September then we will either move to my house (very TEMPORARILY) or rent til we find 'the house'.

We both live at home but we have an apartment already. All of our furniture is there already (minus a mattress and fridge). FH was suppose to move in Dec but that didn't happen. Hopefully he will be in the aprtment in Feb.

We are renting an apt in one of his parents building that they own. No we won't be living with his parents. They have their house.

We will look for an apt to rent. We want to buy within the next 2 years, but deciding if we are going to stay in NY or move elsewhere.

I would love to move elsewhere! However, don't think that's happening! I can't stand the cold of NY anymore...

Anyway, thanks for all your input. Curly, we're in the same boat as you guys. Not really sure about renting, rather buy a house, ya know? If that doesn't work, we don't know what we'll do! Where have you looked?

We're looking to buy a co-op. We've made a couple of offers, but haven't bought one yet. If we don't find one in time, we'll rent until we do. No way could we ever live with either of our parents!

Wow, I didn't know there was any of us out there. EVERYONE I know has lived together before marriage. It's a choice I guess. Honestly though it's been a great way to save for the wedding and down payment. We have been looking in Farmingdale, North Babylon, Certain parts of Bay Shore, West Babylon. I swear we have seen EVERY friggin house on LI but we are ALWAYS outbid on price. We are working with a really nice Real Estate agent and am confident he will find us something....we hope

We are going to look for an apt in the city a month or so before the wedding. We won't have enough $$ to buy something for a couple of years.

I am so glad there are a nice group of us ladies still at home! It really is a great way to save money!

Curly looks like you've chosen good neighborhoods to look in! We will be looking in the Levittown, Wantagh, Seaford area! Hey I may be moving out of my house, but that doesn't mean I have to totally move away from mommy and daddy! LOL!

Re: For those who still live at home and FH's live at home too

We were looking in Levittown but none of the homes have basements and I really want one. Wantagh and Seaford are a little out of our price range so that pushed us to Suffolk ( I live by Jericho so I didn't want to leave). Trust me, even that was a hard decision. I was born and raised in Nassau and to think I won't be living in the same county as my family, SU*KS. We are VERY close and it will be hard to move out

I live in Levittown now, so I'm used to NOT having a basement, although I'd LOVE to have one! However, we'd like to find something with a little extension you know? So we don't TOTALLY miss not having one. Who knows! Yeah, it's going to be tough to pack up and move out I told my mother to leave my room the way it is! But they already have plans for it! ha!

Aren't there some splits in Levittown? I live in East Meadow how about there? I love my neighborhood.

We are living in FH's parents basement that is fully furnished. There is NO way we were going to rent. My father is sooo against wasting money that way. It gives us the opportunity to save faster and get a house in much less time if we had to rent.

Karina what happened to the house you were closing on?

My dad's the same way about rent. But we're still not sure. No no splits in Levittown, just capes and ranches. I still love it there though! I'd REALLY like to go to Seaford though, so we'll see!

Never considered East Meadow, I don't know why...hmmmm

Re: For those who still live at home and FH's live at home too

East Meadow is still up there in price range. My cap is 300 and homes in Nassau are FAR exceeding that.

Wanda- Very sad news on the home we were closing on. I was very sad for like a week or so. Long story short the deal fell through because the owners were a NIGHTMARE to deal with and in the end they changed the terms. If it wasn't meant to be it means there is soemthing better out there for us Thanls for asking chica.

Oct- My cousin lives in Levittown on Sycamore lane. It'a beautiful town

Smart thinking to have a cap! I don't know what ours is! lol! I guess that's his job to tell me! Anyway, don't really know where sycamore is, I think that's on the other side of Hempstead Tpke. Sorry to hear about your last house falling through That could be a good sign!

Good luck house/apartment hunting ladies!

We just purchased our first house last Friday.

YAY! Congratulations! How exciting? Where did you purchase? Have you lived together before?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just curious to know, how it was planning a wedding and buying a house at the same time! Did you find it too overwhelming? Thanks!

Re: For those who still live at home and FH's live at home too

It's overwhelming at times. I feel like I'm always very busy. If I don't have an appt. with a vendor then I'm usually in a real estate appointment. It's crazy but it must be worth it in the end.
