For those whose Dad's aren't around

Original post by PaddysGirl15

Who are you having walk you down the aisle?

My dad passed away almost 4 years ago- he was a really 'goomba' so since we are getting married in Ireland (my mothers side) I am going have someone from my dad's side walk me down the aisle.

If any of you are doing this, will you have this person dance with you in place of the father/daughter song? I think I may dance with mom for this- not sure.

either way i will be

My father passed away when I was 7, so I am going to have my 2 brothers walk me down the aisle. As for the dance, I will dance with both of them (one at a time of course)... now I just have to find the right song.

i never met my dad and my grandma (hallowedding's mother) was always my father growing up. so she'll be walking me down the aisle. my maid of honor will be my mom because i wanted her to be just as important in my wedding. they're both my angels.

My dad passed away 10 years ago. I'm walking down the aisle by myself. I feel that it would have been his job and no one can replace him. I'm not doing anything in place of a father/daughter dance.

FYI...I'm lighting a memory candle for my dad during the ceremony and it will stay lit for the entire wedding.

I understand how you are feeling...listen to your heart and you'll make the right decision.

FM me if you want to chat more.

My dad passed in August. MY Uncle/God father will be walking me down the isle. They don't have any children and he was my fathers best friend so I know it would make my daddy and happy! I'm going to dance with him also

My Father passed away 9-years ago

I am having both of my brothers walk me down the isle.

I am also dancing with both of them or maybe my Mom, have not decided that one yet.

ugh i have the same problem-

my father passed away six years ago- he was an only child and I have no brothers.

my mom has two brothers, one uncle is my sisters godfather, my other uncle is mine, so i was going to have him walk me down the aisle -

sadly, he passed a way a few weeks ago - so now i have no idea who to have do it. im not really that close to my other uncle, and he walked my sister down - i think im going to have my mom do it.

and i am skipping the dance part, that will definitely be to hard!

My dad has passed as well. I will be walking down by myself.

Me too.

Have to admit - I am a little nervous about doing so. I am going to give my FH a hand signal if I get too overwhelmed so he can come get me!

Re: For those whose Dad's aren't around

Sorry to crash the 07 site (I'm at the beginning stages of planning my 06 wedding!), but I've been trying to answer this same question.
My parents divorced when I was 11 and it was a tough break up, mom married my stepdad when I was 14. I have a rough relationship with my dad -- I can go years without talking to him, but he frequently 'appears' and tries to re-kindle some fantasy relationship. He's invited to the wedding out of respect for the life he gave me, but he's only a 'guest' at this point - plus I wan't my brother and his family to attend and I'm nervous they might get mad if I don't invite our father. I don't think he should have the honor of walking me down the aisle, but I'm afraid he'll cause drama if I ask my stepdad or another close friend of the family. Anyone have experience with this? My dad walked my sis down the aisle at her wedding 7 years ago and it was pins and needles to see if he would cause a scene. My stepdad doesn' t have any daughters of his own and I think this would be a nice honor to share with him for being a role model for all these years.
what do you think?

my parents divorced when I was 5 and I don't really have a relationship with my father.. and it's been a rocky one for whatever we do have.. I don't believe he has the honor of walking me down the aisle and it's causing a little bit of controversy on my father's side.. and I have a feeling to shut eveyone up, I am going to have to suck it up and have him walk me down the aisle.. which I am trying to stick to my guns and NOT do.. but I will be having a mothe/daughter dedication song and dance..

Stick to your guns!!!
Do what you want!

If he has not earned that spot, don't let him have it!

In my opinon, if you are close to your stepdad, ask him to walk you down the aisle. and in the alternative, your mother or by yourself,,,

Re: For those whose Dad's aren't around

HELP GUYs! My brother has done exactly what I was afraid he would do - he won't let his kids be in my wedding because I've apparently disrespected our father. I'm so upset I can't even think straight. The worst part is that I haven't even decided yet whether my father would walk me down the aisle or not! UGHHH. This is horrible. How can someone be so G-D- SELFISH! And my bro hasn't even told me yet - he's simply not returning my calls....very chicken of him....instead he had our mother tell me when I asked if we could all go dress shopping for my niece this weekend (mom and bro's families live upstate so I was going to visit them all this weekend for Mother's Day!)....my mom told me that she thought my brother should tell me himself but when he stopped returning my phone calls about the wedding I knew something was up. He told her that he doesn't feel it's right for his children to be in my wedding if I feel it is acceptable to not have our father walk me down the aisle. How can someone do this to their own children - niece would be a junior bridesmaid - she's old enough to know what's going on. I hate divorce!!!
Sorry for the rant!
Anybody have words of advice???
