For those whose Dad's aren't around

Who are you having walk you down the aisle?

My dad passed away almost 4 years ago- he was a really 'goomba' so since we are getting married in Ireland (my mothers side) I am going have someone from my dad's side walk me down the aisle.

If any of you are doing this, will you have this person dance with you in place of the father/daughter song? I think I may dance with mom for this- not sure.

either way i will be

Callan....that brought a tear to my eye

It really is up to you...definitely if your close to your mom..have a dance with her. But why not both? If you are close with one of your uncles or cousins or whatever from that side, have them walk you down the aisle...and do a special dance...with him, and dedicate the dance to your father

Re: For those whose Dad's aren't around

Well, my dad is still alive and will be at my wedding, but I am not close with him at all. He left when I was a baby and we reconnected after I graduated High School. It's been a bumpy road to say the least. I want him at my wedding, but as a 'guest'. I know this may sound funny, but unless you've been in my whacky family shoes, it may be hard to understand!

Regardless, I've asked my mother to walk me down the asile. She was hesitant at first. She thought it should be a man, but I feel it should be who ever the bride wants. In my case, I felt it should be who rasied me and took care of me all these years. The person who made me the person Nick fell in love with. Only that person is suited to 'give me away'. It was naturally my mom.

As far as the dance, I will most likely dance with my mom as well. But I'm not 100% sure on this one! I have to see how she feels about it!

My father left before I was born so I have never had him in my life. My grandfather was going to be the one to walk me down the aisle but unfortunately he passed away last May so my mom will walk me down the aisle. I don't think I will be doing a father/daughter dance or anything b/c it may be too emotional for me but I think it would be so sweet if you danced with your mom! Just remember that he is with you always and stay smiling for him!! I am hear for you!!

Awwhhh Callan. My mother left my father after many years of abuse. I don't really remember him to tell you the truth.( I was 2 ) My mother will be walking me down the asile with my son. I have NO ties to his family at all. Nor does my family. Do what you feel is comfortable enough for you. I was going to originally have just my son, but my mom was my father and mother, so she deserves it, and is more than happy to give me away!!

My dad passed away when I was 4yrs old. I have been thinking about this for a long time and I am going to have my little brother walk me down the aisle.

For my father/daughter dance I am going to dance with my brother for a little bit and then my mom.

I think that no matter who you choose that you have made a good choice. You have to do what is right for you and what will make you happy on your special day.

Are you going to do anything to incorporate your father into your special day?

First, Mel happy to hear that you and Blake are well.

Second my dad passed away so time ago, so I will have my uncle (my dad's baby brother) walk me down the aisle. And his older brother (a Rev.)
will be perform the cememory.

I think you should dance with your mom, it will be special and I have seen this done at weddings before.
Do what makes you happy and what you will love to do on your special day

My FH's mother passed away...he is dancing with his sister during the 'Mother/Son' dance.. maybe if you have a brother or another man you are close with to dance with? And I am sure you can honor him in other ways... perhaps leaving some flowers at the church. mention him in your program and/or during the petitions at the service?

Just know he will be there in spirit!

My Dad passed away too. By my wedding date it will be a little over 3 years since his passing. I am gonna have one of my brothers walk me down the aisle. As far as the dance, I think I am just going to eliminate that part. It would be too sad to do it with someone else.

My mother is walking me down the aisle. I'm also dedicating a song to her and dancing with her at the reception.

My father passed away when I was 11, I will be having my borther walk me down the isle...

He will walk my mother down, and then come back around and walk me... I thought it would be ok.

As for the dance, I don't know what I am going to do, I was thinking of just not having it... Maybe just do another dance with FH and I. Or we were thinking that I would dance with FH father, and FH would dance with my mother... I don't know yet.

i agree, do what your heart tells you to.

i went to a wedding where the girl's father passed away and she walked alone... she said no one could take his place and that he always taught her to stand on her own two feet and made her an independent and strong woman--so she would carry on like that at her wedding and throughout her life... it was very touching to see but i can understand how it might be hard to do that also so that's why it's up to you but i wanted to give you an alternative idea to think about. i think if that ever happened to me, God forbid, i would do this (meaning walk alone).

good luck to you and i hope whatever you choose, that you are at peace during that moment b/c it's one of the most amazing moments of your life!

Re: For those whose Dad's aren't around

my parents divorced when I was 5 and I don't really have a relationship with my father.. and it's been a rocky one for whatever we do have.. I don't believe he has the honor of walking me down the aisle and it's causing a little bit of controversy on my father's side.. and I have a feeling to shut eveyone up, I am going to have to suck it up and have him walk me down the aisle.. which I am trying to stick to my guns and NOT do.. but I will be having a mothe/daughter dedication song and dance..

my dad isnt...and i was initially going ot have my mom walk me down, but she suggested my cousin..hes my ONLY cousin...small family. But for the father/daughter song, i never once considered dancing with anyone but my mom. It wil be a great way for the both of you to remember your dad...
