For Women Who Shop at Express...

Original post by violet

are you the same size in pants now than you, say, were last year there? Last month I got so upset because the regular size I always get was a little tight, so I got a size bigger. The thing that gets me is the pants I have now fit me fine, even pants I have bought from there maybe 2 years ago. Have they made their sizing run smaller? Or am I just gaining weight?

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who goes through this! I can be anywhere from a size 5/6 to a 10 at both Express and the Gap. Also (and I know this is going to sound crazy!) I bought two pairs of the same exact jeans in different colors from the Limited back in the fall and the darker pair is tighter than the lighter colored.

I always had this problem with dark jeans. I was told that it was something in the dying process that shrinks the fabric a little or doesn't give it enough 'give'

And what did they do to Structure (Express for Men). They used to have nice preppy man clothing, now it's metrosexual euro clothing. It sux!

Acutally funny thing. DH and I were in Sears in the tool dept. and we went upstiars.. and Sears now bought the Structure brand and they sell Structure clothes there now!! Mike was so excited. He bought a few things. It was hysterical b.c we were clothes shopping at Sears- and the Structure clothes were awesome!

REALLY?? Wow ! Dh will be so excited. He loved Structure. He got so many clothes from there when his friends used to work there.
Thanks for the info

Yeah I'm anywhere from a 6-10... as well.

Here's my question.. since when did Express get so friggin' EXPENSIVE? Seriously I shopped ther ALL the time in college and I did NOT pay $90 for a pair of pants. Their prices are just off the wall! I go in there and laugh at what they are charging.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. I got Express gift cards for Christmas, so I was able to buy two pairs of pants. I can't believe how much they charge for them! I remember they used to be around $30 or $40 a pair.

Also, I've seen Express sell 7 jeans for a really high price, but they are not even the same brand as the 7 they sell for a $150 a pair. Are they trying to fool people or something? I do have a pair of those expensive 7 jeans, but I got it for cheaper on e-bay.

That's good to hear that they did change the sizing. I think the shirts sizing is the same though.

Once Express introduced the '5th Avenue Design Studio', all the prices shot up. Where do you ladies shop instead these days? Express was always my favorite, but the prices are insane.

DH is really upset about Structure. Express Men is totally not his style. Where do your FHs/DHs shop for preppy stuff?

I tend to shop more at the outlets because when they have good sales they are the best.

Otherwise I try to hit the stores only when they have the big sales (such as Gap, Express, Ann Taylor Loft)

As for my DH, he likes thing from:
Polo Outlet Store, Gap, Brooks Brothers outlet

I pulled out a very old thermal shirt from the Gap out of my drawer the other day. It was purchased in the early 90s I am sure.....it fits me perfectly and its a size SMALL. There is no way in HE LL I could fit into a small from the Gap these days so it just goes to show you what a 'small' used to be!

I swear by Macy's. I love their INC brand. The pants fit me similar to Express, but better. There is always a sale at the Herald Square location. I have not paid over $40 dollars for anything there ever and that includes brands like Nicole Miller, DKNY and BCGB.

In general I feel that the Gap, Express and other popular clothes companies are making their jeans smaller and smaller.

Yes - i agree - i have always been able to go in and get 'my size' from the Gap without even trying on. And recently that is not the case.

Oh yeah, A&F changed sizing over the past few years too. I have two sweaters from them, one a medium and one a large and they are the same fabric (wool) and cut and they measure up to be the same. Mediums are now Larges to them

I find it weird that stores are making their sizing smaller and smaller when the US has such an obesity problem.
