for your DIY's... what printer??

What kind of printer do you ladies use? Your DIY stuff always looks so professional!

FH & I tried printing up engagement invititations on an inkjet printer this weekend and it was a disaster! It took forever, we couldn't get the colors we wanted, all the colors either streaked or bled. Sooo unprofessional!!!!!

We ended up having to do half the invites in one color and the other half in another color because just when we finally got it to print decently, halfway through the pile, blue just decided it didn't want to be blue anymore!!!!

TIA

Well I haven't done any DIY projects yet, but I will tell you that the newer your printer is the better, also, it helps if you have the type of printer that's geared towards making photo prints.

Clean your cartridge heads, and paths, and print a few test runs before your final print.

I've printed other things, such as presentations and the quality is great.

My printer is less that 2 yrs old, and its one of those photo printer/scanner/copier/fax all in one

my I ask how old is your printer ?

I used an inkjet printer but for the color writing (i printed on vellum paper) I used photo ink. We felt it looked better.

But boy was it a pain. FH had to do it, I was too aggrivated...lol.

You can get a pretty awesome laser jet printer for under $200 and will more than likely not go through more than the cartridge that comes with it. Color printers can run more, but sometimes it is worth the effort to try to rework your design for black and white or use color splashes in add-ons (seals, stickers, stamps etc.)

A laser jet will be waterproof (a must in my opinion) and give a clear crip line to anything you print. I'd consider buying a used one, borrowing one from a friend, or going to Staples/Kinkos.

I have an epson ink jet and used it for everything. If you're having problems with the color bleeding, it's probably one or two things.

1. You InkJet heads may be clogged and need cleaning
or
2. Your Paper may be the problem (It may not be absorbing the ink correctly) Double check to make sure your paper is Ink Jet friendly. I've purchased many papers that say they are and then when you try to print it's like the whole world blows up.

The woman who said that laser printers are sharper is generally correct, unless you can go in there and mess with the printer driver and change your settings, most Ink Jet printers print at half the resolution of laser printers :)
