Forced air or 1-zone air?

Forced air or 1-zone air?

I'm not sure what it's called but we have one zone heating in our 3 story townhouse. The heat comes from the 2nd floor and drifts up from the open living room so it makes the 3rd floor (bedroom and loft area) so SUPER hot, meanwhile the 2nd floor and the 1st floor (the 1st is a little area just where u walk in) are freezing!!

Anyone have any suggestions on what to do? It's like 2 completely different temps in our place all the time!

We have exactly the same problem! It's horrible. You freeze on the first 2 floors and are dying in the bedrooms. We asked a heating guy and he said the only thing that could help is if we got a more powerful furnace. He was a friend - not someone looking to take our $$.

There has to be a way to add a zone. We just put radiant floors in our bathroom which added a new zone to the house.

we have that also in our condo. it's horrible especially in the summer when the A/C is freezing downstairs to make it livable upstairs!! i had priced putting in a second zone (we only have two floors) and i think it was about $1,200 - $1,500. if we decide to stay in the condo long-term, we may definitely consider doing that.

I didn't even think that you could put a second zone in. I don't think we will though because we will probably try to move within the year or so. But for now, I wish there was a solution- at least a temporary one!!
