I found china that I loved at Fortunoffs. But it's expensive, and there's a lot of other things that FH and I need more. We registered for a lot (lol he had fun with the scanning gun). Do you use/will you use your china? Should I take mine off my registry?

Re: Formal china?
Mine is still in the boxes...but I think it is a good thing to register for because one day you will use it and it is expensive so why not have other people buy it for you? BUT be weary, if it is too expensive people might not buy you all of it, or go in with someone to buy you one place setting, leaving you to purchase the rest...
I think it is a classic gift people look to give you at your shower but you will get a lot of the stuff you need too!

Re: Formal china?
i originally had a lenox pattern. the soup bowls wasn't include so it would be a fortune to complete the set. we changed it to a mikasa pattern. all mikasa patterns include the soup bowls. i've used it 3x's already
We didn't register for formal china. FH & I agreed that we didn't think we were going to use it. We'd prefer things that we would use on an everyday basis.

Well, FH and I entertain a decent amount, so we definately will get use out of ours.

Re: Formal china?
I'm having a similar dilemma. My fine china is $125 per place setting (Waterford's Alana), and I feel I should switch it for a cheaper one. I feel like I won't get all of it if it's that expensive and don't want to have to buy it for myself, b/c we will need other stuff at that point!

Re: Formal china?
half of mines in boxes and the other half is displayed in my china cabinet, honestly, i dont think i'd ever use it.....
i'd still register for it, [u can always take it back] if u dont get all the neccesseties you need, like the kitchen appliances, the bedding ect....
my china was prciey too...each place setting was $109.95 [Opal Innocence / Lenox] but my glasses weren't bad, they were $25 a glass.... I could NEVER have someone spend $50 or more on a glass! If they break, 'i'll freak!

Re: Formal china?
I have many married people in the family and NONE of them use their china more then once a year if that and they all told me if they would choose a china set now they wouldn't get the one they picked out when they got married. If you really don't think you will use it then wait till you have a house and a big china closet to store it otherwise it sits in a box. We didn't register for a set because we rather have good pots and good set of knives instead.

Re: Formal china?
you probably wont use it as often as youd like ( i dont think any of us do) but its probably something your mom always dreamed of buying you... so i say go for it. besides, when you WILL use it, even if it is just twice a year, you can always say 'this is what my family chipped in and bought me' or 'hey, my mom got me all this'...
dont get me wrong, ours is sitting in boxes in my moms house, but im glad we have it...
if you do register for fine china, try and see if its one of those lines that dont get discontinued- just inc ase you break something and want to replace it...

Re: Formal china?
I will use it so thats why i put it on there...I am used to how my mother did things so i'll probably do the same...We had casual china and formal china, but they're not that much different lol, same pattern but different colors, one is silver and the other is gold rimmed, and of course more plates for the formal one.

Re: Formal china?
We will be registering for it. We still use my grandparents formal china probably about 10-15 times per year, so eventually I hope to use mine as much as we use theirs.

I optewd not to register for it, just b/c I don't really have a need for it, plus I'm gettin family (heirloom) China, that we will probly never use, so I registered for a plain simple evryday one from C& B I will use it for all occassions

Re: Formal china?
we felt we'd probably use it...and ours too is pricey I think it is $115 a placesetting (Waterford Brocade), but so far we have 4 sets and with every one we got a free soup bowl that was priced at $50. Fortunoff's is great with their free bonues!! Love them for that!!
We just felt with registering, it is like making up a wish list of all the things you'd like--your giving people options to buy things for you. If you don't put it out there then your won't receive it. A friend of mine went through the same dilemma with the china a few years ago whether to register or not for it--and she did cause she realized she'd never just go and spend all that money herself. If you'd really like it---register for it

Re: Formal china?
Ok this is what you do check out the Lenox outlet out East at Tanger. Major markdowns because they have small imperfections so see what people buy you at Fortuneoff's and then you can always buy the rest of it out east..(this is what i am doing ) My latest deal a $260 lenox murray hill coffee pot reg. $260 i got it for $60! You can do it!

Re: Formal china?
I plan on using mine once we get a house and have a place to put it (right now it's in my ILs basement all boxed up).
I was on the fence like you but, my mom talked me into it. DH loves to entertain and since it's dishwasher safe I plan on using it often!
