I have no idea...but I plan on registering for 8 settings of dinnerware and 12 settings of Casual China so that if we happen to have some people over we can use the nicer dishes. I don't want to register for Formal China because my Mom has my Great Gma's china which I will get when she's tired of hosting the holidays.

i was looking at every day china at BBB and the difference i noted was that the every day came with 4 place settings where as formal came with 5 place settings! don't know if this is the only difference and of course also the price

I already got every day dishes so i am going to register for fine china hopefully i'll get it

i think china is a type of plate-like plastic or stone-ware. Fine china is used for dinner parties and special guests. You dont have to have everyday china in addition to fine china if you dont want-you can have different everyday plates like stone-ware plates..i could be wrong but thats my take on it. I have everyday stone-ware and put the completer set and an extra set for the stone-ware on my registry. I also put a full set of fine china on my registry but not 'everyday' china

Formal China - obvious- really nice fancy dinner china

Every day china-- lesser quality than the fine china but still really nice. Safe enough to put in dishwasher and use (TA-DA!) everyday.

Everyday dishes - made other porcelan, typically are not sold by the piece or by settings, rather in complete set boxes.

IMO everyday dishes is what FH & I currently use. they where very cheap at BBB & came in a box set of 4 settings.
the dishes we registered for our new everyday set are by kate spade & they are fine bone china & we are requesting 4 of each.

our fine china is by wedgewood & its called ceramic ware & we are requesting 12 of each. these have complementing table linens, flatware & stemware. these will be used for holidays & special occasions.

both of these sets are very expensive but since we already live together we don't need any pots/pans & the only appliances we registered for are a toaster, wine fridge, & vacuum.

the lady at BBB told me that everyday china is a better quality then everyday dinnerware and it will hold up much better over the years. it may or may not be sold in sets.

typical everyday dinnerware is sold in a set and obviously cheaper.

i registered for everyday china. they felt more durable and they were a little heavier
