FH and I are planning a wedding for the weekend preceding President's Day of 2006. (Feb 18 or 19) with President's Day being Monday, the 20th. The wedding will be a formal (black tie) affair with approximately 25% of our guests coming from out of town and possibly needing hotel accommodations and air transportation. The question we have is:
We haven't settled on Sat or Sun...If you were an out of town guest (NOT A BRIDE) which would be easier for you to attend: Saturday night (7pm start) or Sunday at twilight (4pm start)?

Re: Formal wedding date (with poll)
IMO it may be easier for your OOT guests if the wedding was on a Saturday night...they could travel on Saturday morning rest and still have time to have a great time at your wedding. They'd also have the rest of the weekend to go sight seeing or anything else they may enjoy! If its earlier on a sunday some may choose to travel on that day and will be crunched for time before the ceremony. That's just my opinion...hope it helps!

Re: Formal wedding date (with poll)
I was going through this when I was deciding on when to have the wedding, since I have a lot of OOT guests (including myself!). Saturday night is a little better because that means that people can travel that morning, get a little rest, and then attend the wedding. With Sunday, it would require more staying over more than one night, which may get expensive for your guests.

As a guest, I think I would prefer Saturday. That way, I would still have time to get home on Sunday.

Re: Formal wedding date (with poll)
Honestly, Saturday would be easier, but I would definitely be leaving to go home or back to the hotel no later than 11-11:30 pm .
We just went to an evening wedding. We stayed until 1 am and it destroyed us. We were exhausted for the next 3 days.

Re: Formal wedding date (with poll)
I'm frequently an out of town guest (went to school in Indiana) so I must say that the Saturday night affair appeals to me because of the airline prices....remember the whole 'Saturday stay?' It seems most flights that leave Sunday morning are the cheapest--at least when I have to travel. :) Either way, you will have a wonderful day!

Re: Formal wedding date (with poll)
I always think Saturdays are best. The OOTs don't have to get up early so they enjoy the reception more. Even with Monday off, I think Sunday afternoons are really associated more with relaxing. They can return home on Sunday, or even wait until Monday to do so.
