FH and i went to fortunoff yesterday to use our gift cards.. what a disaster! the lines were soooo long, there were hardly any employees, not too much stock.. it was pretty sad.
i just wanted to let everyone know that the cashier told us that she heard it from her higher up that NEXT WEEK with be the last week they are taking gift cards if the company doesnt get bought!!!!
just a heads up for everyone! go spend those gift cards!!!!!

yeah, we went to the westbury store. i didnt see any signs though.. and not really any close out sales going on either. its kind of weird.

I did BBB, Macy's, and Amazon. We had Fortunoff but changed to Macy's once we heard of the chapter 11 filing. FH was set on having a registry on Amazon, so we did that too. It actually is nice though b/c there's a lot of stuff with better prices. Most of my stuff is on BBB though, that way people can use those 20% coupons.

You definitely can. And people have already bought off of it already! But if you do it, just make sure that when you pick items they're from reputable sellers or directly from Amazon.

And that's where it begins.....I used to work in corporate for Steve and Barry's. After the first round of corporate layoffs, the whole place went down the tubes. It was only about 6 months between the first round of layoffs after chapter 11 filing and the day the closed the doors for good.

we were at fortunoff in westbury on saturday and it wasn't crazy at all and they seemed to have a lot of stuff still available. you couldn't even tell tehy were closing.

OMG! THANKS FOR THE UPDATE!! FH and I were supposed to go Saturday, but FH couldnt find the gift card. arrrrg. he will need to get on it!!!!

I actually went to Fortunoffs on Saturday during our registry shopping extravaganza (wasnt going to register there do to everything going on!). The store was crazy to say the least. I ended up registering at Crate & Barrel, Bloomingdale's and BB&B. The people who work in the registry section at BB&B said that they have been rediculously busy with registries since the whole Fortunoff thing hit the news....

They not closing!!! they looking for the new buyer like it happened last year!!!!!!! hopefully they will stay!!! and if not i just feel bad for all the people working there. they have bigger problem then just switching the registry from one place to some other!!!!!!!!! or loosing couple $$$ from the gift cards. they will loose their jobs and health insurance!!!! did any of you think about it?? Cuz i just did.I think some of us need some reality check and stop bein so selfish!!! Our perfect weeding day its just couple of hours!!!! Its not the end of the world if we would have to move our registry... really :) So everybody heads up!!! Everything will be great!!!! stay positive!!!

I don't think it's a matter of people not understanding that some people may be losing their jobs. I think it's just a matter of covering ourselves. Like I mentioned, I used to work for Steve and Barry's. For those of you that don't know it, it was the retail store that sold the Starbury collection by Stefan Marbury and the Bitten collection by Sarah Jessica Parker. Anyway, I was there for 3 years and they filed chapter 11 in June. Within 6 months they closed the doors for good. And they DID get bought out, but then the buyers RE-FILED again. I was one of the lucky ones that found another job before I could get laid off, and left on my own terms. But yes, I have a lot of friends out of a job right now.
As for Fortunoff, again, I don't think it's that people don't care about those losing their jobs, it's just that we're all trying to make sure we don't get screwed over too. I see nothing wrong with rushing out to use up gift cards before they stop accepting them. That's exactly what happened with The Sharper Image when they filed. They stopped accepting gift cards and people were left with hundreds of dollars and nowhere to spend it.

We had a 75.00 gc and bought our toaster and some other stuff off our registry at the westbury store on Saturday. It was INSANE!
I'll probably switch to Crate and Barrel or Macy's when the time comes.
I don't want anyone to lose their jobs, but I'm also not going to lose 75 out of my pocket, either.

i think you need a reality check.. i was simply stating the fact that an EMPLOYEE of fortunoff told me that as of next week the will no longer be accepting gift cards.. and im passing that information along to other brides who might have gift cards from their showers/engagement parties... i NO WHERE said anything about employees and their jobs.. unfortunately this is how the economy is going right now and its a fact of life. i am NOT spreading rumors, just looking out for others who might have gift cards there. this is a part of our lives this moment so YES i do care if i lose 200 dollars in gift cards. that does NOT mean that i dont care about people losing their jobs.
and dont you dare call me selfish.

I cant believe fortunoff is closing. So many people have registeries and stuff there. I def. recommend using your gift cards from them. It seems like they'l be closing real soon.

Trust me I just lost my job a month ago so its more of a reason to be worried that my gift cards were not going to be accepted. Then I'd be out even more money then I already am and I have no health ins either. Its crappy but its life. Im glad I got to use my gift card sat Fh had to get a deep fryer lol i dont think its selfish at all.
