They not closing!!! they looking for the new buyer like it happened last year!!!!!!! hopefully they will stay!!! and if not i just feel bad for all the people working there. they have bigger problem then just switching the registry from one place to some other!!!!!!!!! or loosing couple $$$ from the gift cards. they will loose their jobs and health insurance!!!! did any of you think about it?? i think you need a reality check.. i was simply stating the fact that an EMPLOYEE of fortunoff told me that as of next week the will no longer be accepting gift cards.. and im passing that information along to other brides who might have gift cards from their showers/engagement parties... i NO WHERE said anything about employees and their jobs.. unfortunately this is how the economy is going right now and its a fact of life. i am NOT spreading rumors, just looking out for others who might have gift cards there. this is a part of our lives this moment so YES i do care if i lose 200 dollars in gift cards. that does NOT mean that i dont care about people losing their jobs.

I also just lost my job...I would be extremely pissed off if my registry got screwed over too. I just had to re-register at Macy's and it totally ******. The fact that Fortunoff is closing ***** for the employees, but with the state that I'm in, I need to use my gift cards now!!! This economy is in bad shape, but it also doesn't mean us brides should just take a loss b/c that company couldn't stay in business or notify us that they might not have a registry in the near future. I appreciate the heads up, and it's not a rumor...I have a relative that works high up and I'm family friends with the actual Fortunoff family that used to own the business. Best of luck in finding where to register girls! We did Macy's and C&B....but Target has a lot of nice stuff (which you wouldn't think).

boy some live in a dream world. It has been everywhere that the store is probably closing. They already closed their store in the city.

well isnt someone all high and mighty today...Im sorry are we supposed to listen to someone who is sh!tting rainbows and butterflies?! Wake up honey and smell the roses, things ARE NOT ok...companies are going under left and right...we are all aware of it...and if we have gift certificates we want to use, who cares let us use them...And if we want to stress about our registries to get our minds off of the sh!t we are all going through then let us, dont pretend to be all special and better than the rest of us...

I feel bad for my sister. Her shower is in March and wedding in May. I told her she needs to call and speak to someone NOW.
Luckily her china pattern can be found at Macys as well. And the things left on her registry seem like things you can find at Macys or BBB.

My friend is writing the follow-up piece to this for Forbes. She spoke to several officials in Fortunoff's corporate headquarters (whose names she can't give me until she finishes the story), and they are going to liquidate probably by the end of the week if they do not get bought out (which is unlikely).
It's not about living in a dream world, or spreading rumors. It's about protecting investments. I, for one, only registered at Fortunoffs because I wanted a gift card. And I got one. And I used it. I feel terrible for people who are losing their job, but my job could be next and I don't want to think that I missed an opportunity for 'free money.'

I am very lucky to have a wonderful job with a wonderful company. I've been laid off before, it s*cks and I wouldn't wish it on ANYone.
This is a HORRIBLE time right now, unemployment's at the highest it's been since the 1980s. Which means, *I* need to stay realistic. Not positive, not negative... realistic. Fortunoff's STOPPED talking their own credit card.... That can't be good. I feel sympathy for the people who are going through a hard time right now... FH is looking for a job, so I know what a sh*tstorm this is. It also means I need to protect and save as much money as I can... so even if it's just a rumor (which it isn't... watch the news sometime) It's 75 dollars in MY pocket, I'm not throwing it away and hoping for the best... that's foolish. I need to take care of ME and MY LIFE and MY BUDGET. No one else is going to look out for you expect you... Fortunoff's HOPES you don't use that money.
You need to have a plan in life without a plan you're just left holding the bag and scrambling around... I'm too smart to do all that.
