Re: Fortunoff vs. Macys?---any advice

Hey Amy!

Overall it seems that most of the girls prefer
Fortunoff over Macys. As far as me goes, when the time comes I will decide. As of now I don't know where I will register.

However, I will tell you that someone got a hold of my mother-in-law to be's credit card after having done an online purchase with fortunoff, and that person tried buying stuff with her credit card. When the bill came in we noticed other purchases that were not made by her and we immediately had the card canceled.

Re: Fortunoff vs. Macys?---any advice

Forunoffs is sooooooooo much better than MAcy's.
With the china you get a free soup bowl with most patterns at Fortunoffs.

Macy's regular prices are more expensive than Fortunoff's. If you have coupons and go on sale days you might be able to get a macy's item for the same price as Fortunoff. To me it isnt worth the hassle of looking for sales and coupons.

I acutally registered at both b/c We have a lot of family from out of state and their isnt Fortunoff's all over. Also the prices that are shown on line for macys are not the same prices that are in the store. 99.9% of the time on-line is cheaper and one employee told me that it b/c it is the West coast prices. I dont know if I actually belive that or not.

My good china is 59.99 at fortunoff with a free soup bowl

It is 75.99 at Macys no soup bowl

These are their every day prices. If it goes on sale at Macys it is 59.99 but still no bowl.

You are almost scared to buy anything at Macy's if it isnt on sale b/c you know it is probally going to be on sale in a few days for a lot cheaper.

Re: Fortunoff vs. Macys?---any advice

Personally, I despise Macy's. The place is always a mess and the sales associates always treat you like they are doing you a favor by ringing you up. My friend registered there and I went to buy her bathroom set off her registry earlier this week and again, I get the same 'I don't care' service. I won't even go there for everyday purchases. We registered at fortunoff's. Prices are the same as Macy's, if not they are maybe a dollar higher here and there. However, the people there are very helpful.

Re: Fortunoff vs. Macys?---any advice

From my experience, Fortunoff is way easier to manage. Macy's doesn't have a lot in store and they are very disorganized. Fortunoff has a very organized lay out and is so much easier to register with. Fortunoff does have sales, but I wouldn't say the way Macy's does. In terms of price, I have seen Fortunoff have equal (or sometimes better) prices than Macy's.

Re: Fortunoff vs. Macys?---any advice

I registered at Fortunoff and they were great! My friend registered at Macys and when i went to buy her gift in oerson, prices on some items were higher in the store then on-line. i thought that was weird. Plus she eneded up getting a few dupilcates because they didn't take some of the purchased items off the registry.

Alsonot sure about Macys but Fortunoff's gives you a 10% sale day for an unpurchased items, plus 10%off wedding bands.

Re: Fortunoff vs. Macys?---any advice

What we are trying to do is register at a store where we might get gift cards from, and in turn purchase furniture. FH and I went to fortunoffs yesterday to look around and was not impressed with their furniture selection. But based on the response to this post, why would I register at Macys and give people that hassle. I dont think there was one positive in all the respones.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Re: Fortunoff vs. Macys?---any advice

I am trying to decided between both of them too. I figured Macy's might be easier because they have locations all over the country (a lot of our friends are out of state) and Fortunoff's is only in NY. I am starting to worry because of all the negative posts.

Has anyone had a positive experience with Macys?

Re: Fortunoff vs. Macys?---any advice

It's not even a question for me because there are no Fortunoffs where my guests can get to them - my people aren't from LI - and the one Manhattan store only has some departments. Also, they don't have my pattern. My FSIL registered at Macys in CA and I found her gift cheaper somewhere else and I called them and they took it off right away. She didn't seem to have any problems with them. They were also helpful with me picking my registry items. So I'm staying with Macys.

Re: Fortunoff vs. Macys?---any advice

I am registered at both and find Fortunoff's to be better than Macys. Although Macys did surprise me and have a lot of stuff on sale IN THE STORE and it was higher priced online. But I haven't had a problem w/ either as of yet.

Re: Fortunoff vs. Macys?---any advice

I was registered at both. I prefer Fortunoff's but I didn't have any problems with Macy's. I didn't have any duplicates or problems with returns at all. If your guests are mostly from this area, Fortunoff is a better choice. For me, most of my guests were from out of town and did not know about Fortunoff. The majority of my gifts were from the Macy's registry.
