Found My Dress on the First Try!

Found My Dress on the First Try!

I just had to post a note about finding my dress today. On the advice of several here, I went to Bridal Suite in Bay Shore. I had the picture of the exact dress I wanted, only problem was that no one on Long Island had it for me to try on. So, I was toying with the idea of just ordering it, and rolling the dice with a minimal deposit that would have been transferrable, which many places weren't willing to do.

Anyway, we met with Maryellen, who was so helpful. She pulled out a few dresses similar to the one I wanted and off I went to try them on. Well, the very first one I tried on, I knew it was it. It was sort of a combination of what I liked most about the one in the photo and the things my fiance had always said he liked. How could I ask for anything more?

It was amazing. The very first dress. We've been so fortunate with our planning, everything we decided on just seems to be coming so easily. We haven't stressed too much over anything. The only vendor we actually met with more than one of was the DJ. Flowers, Photo/Video and Caterer, just like the dress, were the only ones we tried on. LOL

Congratuations! I have had a similar experience so far with vendors, my dress, bridesmaid's dresses etc...it has come with such ease that it has been a great pleasure to plan the wedding. I just know what I like when I see it. I found my dress in about 2 hours and that was only because I tried on a few more to be sure (and of course had my MOH there for a truthful and loving opinion). I ordered it in July and it was in last month. I 'let my fingers do the walking' and I did A LOT of research on the Internet in general (and here of course!) so I'm well aware of what everything costs & what to look for. Saves quite a bit of running around. When I went looking for invites, I found something I liked and I knew she was giving me a good price so I didn't bother shopping elsewhere. This is just stuff that has worked for me and kept the stress level lower. Lord knows as we get closer to the wedding (3 1/2 months!) there will be things that will try my patience. :o) Good luck to all

Try Platinum Productions in Smithtown. (631) 864-6363. I looked at a number of videographers and he was the best I saw, all around. His price was competitive with the other good videographers but I think I got more for the money when everything was totaled up.

Thanks Nicole M and Elizabeth! It really does feel great to have that out of the way. Of course I expected it to be over quickly since I was just going to place the order on the one I had a picture of. My Matron of Honor is my sister-in-law, and she was with me. It's funny, because I was trying to stay a little reserved when I tried the dress on. I knew I really liked it, but I didn't want to seem like I was just jumping in as an anxious bride falling in love with whatever she put on! :) But, my MOH said how she really liked it on me, and pretty much echoed everything I was thinking. Plus, all I could keep thinking was what a perfect blend of what I wanted and what he has always said he liked on brides dresses! I am so glad I didn't have to try any more than one on. (I am not a fan of trying things on!)

Hopefully, everything else that still needs attention will be such a breeze! I've already got my eye on a really cute favor. It's a vanilla-scented candle in a glass shaped present box, with a lid. It has stripes and on the lid a pretty bow that makes it look like it's wrapped! I'm not sure of the price, but I thought this was a great idea, plus I won't need to wrap them!! Maybe just put a little tag on them.

Wendy,

I think you did the right thing. The dress I had originally wanted, I saw in a magazine nearly two years ago. At that time, my mother had said by the time my fiance and I got around to getting married they probably wouldn't make it anymore. Well, she was wrong, but what I did find was since it was an older style, bridal shops didn't have it to try on anymore. Had you waited til now to start shopping, maybe you wouldn't have been able to find yours either. While I still think the dress in the picture is pretty, I think the one I'm getting is much more perfect. Trying things on can be a pain, but it is certainly worth it.

By the way, we're Sept. 2001 also! :)
